My New Addition! (Gorgeous Dumeril's boa female!)
I cannot believe how beautiful this girl is. If I'm correct I believe she's shedding so I'm still wondering how brighter her coloration can get! Her name is Leela. Not sure of her age, but she's about 6 feet long. Strong girl for sure, but also very placid. I can't believe I got this out of a trade. I traded my 11g Hognose for this beauty.:D

Better pics soon. Tomorrow she has a vet appointment around 2. Hopefully later that day I'll get some better pics. I've soaked her a couple times and she likes to just hang out. I love Dumeril's and she's the perfect girl:D

Thanks! She'll get a little bigger than this but not too much bigger. I would definitely recommend a Dumeril's boa to anyone, I just love their behavior and calm attitude.

An absolutely gorgeous girl! My friend from Kelly's Balls has a Dumeril's baby girl in her shop that I would just love to get but, I'm also in a wheelchair and the size they get to, even though it isn't THAT large by any means, I just can't see it working out so well.

Thanks!! My mom does tell her friends and their expressions are always like this emoticon: :O. Then they say, "She has what???" LOL! I laugh when they come over to see the snakes but I also enjoy it because that's when they get hit with my knowledge about snakes:D:P

Yeah I see what you mean, they do use a ton of muscle and even though they are calm they are pretty strong LOL. Sometimes I have a hard time trying to get her to unwrap her body around me:rolleyes:

Oh Tiffany, she is beautiful! Wow, you are one lucky little lady. How did you come up with her name, and tell us all about her personality and how she responded to your initial introduction.

    Congratulations!

Thank you! I was just thinking of names. I named her Ira but I guess that was a guy's name so I had to go with something else. I was deciding Ira or Lanee at first, then I thought of Leela and it seems to fit her.

Her personality is great, she is so friendly and she likes to move around but also loves to just sit there with me. She hasn't tried to strike or bite me at all. I took her to the vet a couple hours ago and she checked out as very healthy with just a very mild RI that I had noticed the day I got her. She's taking antibiotics from needles every other day for 2 weeks. After that she should be all set and one healthy girl!

My mom understands me liking snakes and stuff so she wants to help out too which I'm so glad about. Some of my family is a little bit nervous about the snakes but as long as their in cages they don't mind LOL.

Hey look, I made your wish come true!^^^
They are pretty easy to keep, but the only downside is that they can be finicky eaters. It'd be surprising to get a Dumeril's to eat for you on the first try. I haven't tried feeding my girl yet since she's on antibiotics but hopefully she'll take it for me:please:

    Thanks!

My vet told me today that it takes them a good amount of time for them to get to the full grown adult size. He said it'll take about 5 years or more, unless they were powerfed. So, he guesses that my snake could be anywhere from 5 to 15 years old at the size she's at now. She weighs 6,200g also.

Good luck with your girl, I wanna see pics!:D

Awsome boa. Now you got me thinking, and I deffinetly don't need any more snakes. Its great that your mom is so supportive. My mom can't stand the snakes but my dad is a completely different story. I wish there were more kids around my age in my area that kept herps. The only person i know is my brother. Hopefully next year in college i can meet at least one person.

My mom is pretty supportive about my snakes but my dad doesn't really mind them.. just doesn't want me to have them in his place LOL.

I definitely wish I had friends around my age who knew about snakes like I did and have their own. Sadly most of the people I know don't really even care to have snakes.

Yeah, I live in a really small town. My graduating class is around 120:rofl:. And telling people i own boas, pythons, geckos, and rats, they dont always understand. When my mom tells people that i own these things they give her the exact same reaction. :O. And the amount of people that think they are venomous or can eat me is ridiculous. I always give a little education whenever i talk about my herps.

LOL that's basically the same how it is for me. Today my cousins saw my big girl for the first time and they were saying, "It can eat your whole arm.." "That thing can eat your leg if it wanted."

    They just don't get it.

    Geat looking snake!
I kept a male dumeril boa in highschool. He went from the absolute worst snake I ever had, to the best and most rewarding one. He had trouble eating, and a crappy attitude. With time he was a big puppy, and ate like clockwork.

Take her out in the sun sometime, you wont believe how iridescent they can be!

Hope you dont mind me sharing!

LOL I can actually see that happening with a Dumeril's boa, but my park has some pretty green grass so I don't think I'll lose my girl.. Unless she tries slithering away from me quickly:rofl:
