Re: They Hatched
I wish it was spot nose... I will reveal when they are fully out of the eggs and more pics are posted.

Re: They Hatched
OMG...I can so never tell. But congrats...how exciting!!

Re: They Hatched
Once they are out of the eggs it should be a little easier to tell... Atleast for anyone working with them.

A baby will sometimes crawl out of the egg early with a large yolk attached and die. There is no need for this butchering. A nice V cut will work just as good.

Re: They Hatched
One more thing. You find BG a pro that does this, and BG will be the first one to tell them they're not one.
-
Re: They Hatched
oh my god, is that...blood? why is there blood in the eggs?

It happens if you nick any of the blood vessels in the egg - normally people candle first to see where the major blood vessels are and mark with a pencil where it is safer to cut.
Though even when doing that I managed to hit one this year. And yes I cut them in the style BG just told us we shouldn't.
But at least I didn't try and pull them out of the egg right? :bolt:

Re: They Hatched
Oye I could not watch the video....like 30 secs into it he is pulling a snake out ....it hurt me just to watch. Had to shut it down. I don't know squat about breeding yet but common sense tells me...:colbert:

Isn't that the Guy from Prehistoric Pets

Re: They Hatched
Yes itīs him, I think that he has cut more eggs in his life than we ever can cut with all our collections together.
This is a guy with a lot of experience so I donīt think that you can compare that but hay, who am I......

Re: They Hatched
BG I understand what you are saying and all except one of them was pipped with 99% of those holes made I just cut the tiny pieces that were holding them in place. The one that I did cut I do agree that I cut it to large.
Other than that thank you all for the comments.

I'm gonna guess the ??? is a fire?

BG and many others have "lots of experience" also, and we know that it can come back and bite yah.:gj:
To your last question. BG has been wondering that?;):D(inside comment)

Re: They Hatched
I went at my first clutch with a chainsaw. Got super happy, and had a really big pair of SCISSORS!!!
One of the breeders that I know well (and whose opinion I value) told me to not do that, he could see I was cutting around the blood vessels, but that the minute you expose it to the air it starts to form bacteria, and by the time the snake leaves the egg it is swimming in a bacterial soup.
And yep, sure enough, it turns to sludge very fast.
I snip, I lift, I peek, I photo, and I place the flap down now.

Re: They Hatched
Hi,
My name is Del and I'm a serial egg-cutter.
I took Kara's advice to Robin to heart and spray into the the eggs a little with water every day at least once after I cut them - it can help flush out the gunk if you see it forming I think.

Enlighten me please
Why do you cut the eggs at all? wouldn't they make their way out on their own like they do in the wild??? I know nothing about breeding snakes and am wondering, it seems strange and unnatural to me.
-
Re: Enlighten me please
Congrats on the clutch. I'm going to guess pastel x normal

It's because some babies aren't strong enough or they didn't develope their 'egg tooth'. The same thing happens with poultry-which I am much more familar with. Some people think they should die if they can't get out on their own, others think that if all they need is a little help and all you have to do is make a small slit' why let them die? I'm with the latter.
It's not anything about the money in my opinion. Some of the poultry I hatch is worth money, but most are chickens and turkies for food and are only worth a dollar or two when they are babies. If they just need a little hole so they don't drown I don't see the issue in that. At least with snakes you can't hear them churping then eventually choking and dying in an unopened egg :( it's heart breaking and I don't see any other option than helping.

Ya that does not look like a "fresh cut" at all.

Fixed it.
BG really doesn't want you rookies to go nuts on the eggs. Only bad things can happen. BG could tell many horror stories people have had. It even happened with the first *&^% ever produced. BG doesn't want to name the Morph because then he'll be naming the knucklehead.:D:D
