Sitting in the surgical waiting room
My fiance is having another surgery, this time they are taking out 15-20 lymph nodes in his abdomen. Two of his lymph nodes got bigger after chemotherapy and he had a 20% chance of his cancer spreading all over again. He's been in surgery for two hours and the nurse told us he's doing good, but we've got a few hours to go. It's so nerve racking sitting here.... I hate it.
He'll be in the hospital for a few days and I'm spending the night tonight and tomorrow, but I have to work Sunday night. It's going to be a long weekend!

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
hmm... I don't know if I'd rather be in your situation or mine.
Yours: happily engaged and presumed gainfully employed with fiance battling cancer, with horse and dog
Mine: single and unemployed without anyone battling cancer, without horse or dog
Better to have loved than not at all. My situation is no fun, but yours is a different one and I wish you and your man the best outcome! Please also remember to take care of your needs, sleep, eat, exercise, rest, he needs you too. :)

Thank you so much everyone! It's been a long day so far! He's been in surgery for 4 hours now and they think he has about a 1/2 hour left.

Oh man that's awful :( Keep your hopes up, I know it's got to be hard! I've been so thankful to have the animals, especially horses. I ride with my family at least once a week, it's a life saver to be able to get away from it all, even for just an hour or two. I hope you have something joyful to lose yourself in.
I learned the hard way not to ignore my own need :( I ended up with an infection in one of my ovaries, it was god awful! That's the best piece of advice you could give any caregiver of sorts!
Good luck to you and never give up!

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
Yay!!! He's out of surgery, it's been just over 4 hours. The doc said one of his lymph nodes was really big and may have cancer in it. If it does have cancer Blake will have 2 more rounds of chemo, which is 6 more weeks, 2 of those weeks being 5 days in a row 8 hours a day. I really don't want to tell him that part. He's going to be VERY upset.

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
Please keep us posted Stephanie. I'm glad surgery has finished successfully. :)

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
Your boyfriend will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery and you will be as well.

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
He's doing pretty well. He's hurting and feeling pretty sick. They have a tube down his nose and into his belly to suck everything out so he doesn't throw up. I want to throw up just thinking about it, and definitely when I look at him :(
His mom is really upsetting me, to put it nicely. She didn't want to take a day off of work to be here even though she gets 30 days of paid vacation a year. She did end up showing up to see him, but only for 20 minutes!!! She's pretty much worthless when it comes to being a mom. My mom has been here since 10am this morning and just left at 9pm. I'm thankful he at least has her to show him support and love. I could just pull out my hair right now.

If you constantly expect her to be the mom you feel she should be, you'll never be happy. You have to be happy for the love you have for this guy, be the person you are and be there for him. When you have kids, you'll be the mom your kids should have. Knowing that should get you to realize what's important.
Keep on being strong!

Thanks everyone! I thought we were done with this crap too! :tears: So far they are thinking the lymph nodes look/feel pretty normal, but we still have to wait for the test results, which should be on Tuesday. I would love a hug from you BPelizabeth :P And I would definitely love you picking up my Sunday shift! :gj:

You are so right, but it's sooooo hard to look past her ignorance as a mother. I try my best, but it still really gets to me. His whole family is like that though. None of his family has called to talk to him or ask about him, let alone come see him. Not even his brother or sister have drove the 20 minutes to come see him. I just don't get that family :(

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
I am glad its over and he is on the way to recovery.. still in our thoughts!
keep your chin up kiddo, your smile will make it easier for him!

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
Good luck. I hope everything goes well for you and your husband. I know the feeling. I was at school while my mom was in the Operating Room in another country for just over 7 and 1/2 only about a month ago. Pretty hard to concentrate while that is happening. Lots more to say but I wont. Hope your husband gets better ASAP.:please:

Re: Sitting in the surgical waiting room
Good luck to you both. Just read him some BG posts. This will cheer him up in a hurry.
Hold on...maybe not. How strong is his personality? That may not be the best thing for him.:D
Hope all turns out for both of you. BG wants to see both of you at the Big Gunns Bash in Daytona(If BG ever plans it).:gj:

Not everyone was born into the family they would want. I am thankful for my mom, but she is all I have. I have a sister that is evil and thousands of miles away, a brother who is absorbed in his family, he's also a couple thousand miles away, I don't know my extended family that's also a few thousand miles away, and I never met my dad... holidays are quiet and lonely... so just think, it could be worse, he could be without you!
Stop letting them get to you. Think about the family you are building now. Serious. :)

Thank you and I will! I have been smiling but he keeps flipping me off :colbert: He's been pretty funny even though he feels like absolute poo. I just laugh and tell him it will be alright, and then he usually flips me off again

That would be so hard to not have any family. I am very thankful to have mine and I don't know how people can go through life without them. Hopefully you will find an amazing partner someday soon!
