I'm pretty sure you'll be fine cleaning the tank, no worries:gj:

Sometimes snakes get grumpy during shed, but if you have a Ball that will strike out just take certain precautions so you won't get bit. If you're worried about him biting you, jut pick him up near the center of his body and gently lift him and set him aside so you can clean the enclosure. Snake bite don't hurt as bad by the way, depending how big the snake actually is LOL.

Alright, no offense but "shedded" is not a word. Its just "he shed a week ago".

Sorry it was driving me nuts! lol :giggle:

Just make sure when you pull the hide off him you don't have your finger sticking in the opening. That is just asking for it :P. If he is in a ball, just scoop him up. Chances are he won't bite you if he is balled up. Don't be afraid! Remember, he is much more afraid of you then you are of him!

He should be fine. Be sure you talk to him and he recognizes you are there prior to picking him up. Don't come at him straight on as that can illicit a defensive strike if he's already wound up. If he's in an s formation, keep talking to him calmly and quietly until he settles down a bit or leave and come back in 20 minutes. Don't let him buffalo you though. If he see's that being a meany keeps you away it could happen more often.

yeah im a little bit worried, mine is also over 4 feet long. but like everyone says, bites arent as painful as you would think, i have yet to be bit by my Ara, ive also only had her for about 4 days, i have not handled her much. i pulled her cave off of her and took a few pics, i had to move her out from the corner in order to place the cave back in its original spot. do not show fear. i think they can sense it!!! let me know if or when you get bit! i do not think you will tho

I've been tagged by both, large adult, and a 2 foot juvenile. They sting about the same. The only difference is the teeth marks are a little further apart.

If your snake is laying with it's head out side the hide, and it doesn't move when you walk by the tank, your snake is sleeping, and I can vouch from personal experince, this is not a good time to reach in and pickup the water bowl. Of course, I would freak out too if I woke up to a giant hand in front of my face... :D

Lol I just started handeling mine recently, and it's about the same size as yours. Just watch your snake, it's pretty obvious when they're pissed off or scared. I noticed with mine that petting it down it's back for a few moments calms it right up. Maybe you should try that first. When it's awake, just gently rub down it's back a bit, almost like a little massage. After you get comfortable doint that you can try to pick it up. That's just my advice, but I'm still new to this too so I may be completely wrong lol

Yea ill have to try them things and see. Yea sometimes when hes up ive reached in and rub his back haha (With Gloves) :weirdface. It seems like it aggravates him sometimes but i just leave him along after. Yea hopefully ill end up picking him up soon that way he can start getting use to me. Since i got him hes calmed down ALOT and stays in his hide during the day so i think hes liking his tank. I put a vine in there last night wrapped around a wooden dowel and he played on it for a while so i think he likes that to. Ill try to get some pics of him today that way u all can see him

Out of curiosity, why are you so afraid of handling your snake? So much that you need to use gloves and a hook on a small BP...

Omega45820 - dont feel bad - you are not alone on that one. When I first got my first bp about 2 years ago - I used to get sooo nervous my heart would race and I donned the leather gloves too - I laugh now when I think back to that time because now I know her and her moods and I can just pick her up without any hesitation.

I have recently gotten an RTB - my first and for some reason they look sooo much more ferocious than the bp's so I am back to the racing heart when I think about picking him up - this weekend will be my first attempt.
