Am I the only one who likes Sables?
My Sable pair is locked up and I have to say I am stoked. I got the pair for one purpose, to make myself a Super Sable. I think my destination for this project is Super Sable Sulfur or Super Sable Ghost.

I do like sables, but they aren't super high on my list of favorite morphs. I do find myself gradually appreciating them more, especially with a few neat combos I've seen.
And what good is this thread with no pics?!

I am a big fan of them. I got a really nice one in Daytona in 08 and he is currently breeding my pinstripe female. I am hoping for something similar to a camo ball eventually.

Good luck on that John. I love my Sable Pin girl. She has finally strated eating on her own, and putting on some weight. I guess I need to get an updated pic soon. I am also breeding my Sable male to a Pastel this year, in hopes of a Pastel Sable male, to put on my Sable Pin girl, and hopefully in the future make a Pastel Camo with the Sable gene.
I think Sables are highly underrated, but they may make a comeback once more combos are done with them.

OK, finally warmed up a bit today, so, here is my Sable pair. One looks textbook, one looks a bit Axanthic.

Sorry about the lousy pics, but they DID NOT WANT to sit still.

Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
how can you tell a sable from a dark normal?
-
Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
You must use the Force.
OK, not really, they are dark, granite looking, with certain belly markings.....or, in my case, I just got mine from the dude who originated them:)

Agree with Tim, Dave. The combos are where it is at and will bring more than a few folks back to Sables!!! :) Good luck on the super.

Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
I am trying my Calico male on two Sable girls this year hoping for a Calico sable male for the two girls next year.
Anyways love to see the Sable pin picks or any other sable crosses that are out their.

Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
I'm a sucker for sables and chocolates but none of them has been sale in Scandinavia and some parts of Europe.

Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
I have nothing against dark colored morphs but im more of a lighter color albino type person. Still a beautiful snake and i would deff pic one up on the future. :gj:

Re: Am I the only one who likes Sables?
I like them too. They are another one of those morphs that you have to see in person to get the full picture on what is going on.

Come on....updated pics!
A word of caution - the pastel sable isn't too pretty when it hatches. In fact, I thought I whiffed on that project all together. There was a decent pastel and one ugly looking pastel in the clutch.
I have a problem where I try to keep every snake that I produce.....this time it paid off:)
After a handful of meals it became apparent that there was sable mixed in. She was ugly when she hatched but has been maturing nicely.
I am very interested to see what a pastel sable pin will look like and how similar it will be to the camo.
Get it done!

Thanks for the write up Joe. I have seen a couple Pastel Sabels, and I wasn't impressed either. However, I am looking in the future, and what I can do with a Pastel Sable, versus what it looks like on its own. What might a Pastel Super Sable look like, and the whole I think it will be a Pastel Camo thing keeps me going too. I am actually going to get some updated pics in an hour or so.

I agree....it is a breeder's snake. I kind of look at snakes like this as "hets", in the sense that they aren't anymore visually appealing than a normal (not knocking normals) but that they get you to another morph. The pastel sable will prove to be a valuable stepping stone.
The cool thing is that they do get better looking with age. I'm not saying they get pretty or anything but better looking;)
