camera happy :D
as the title says :)
Simon, Noah, and Eli (it's so hard to get them all at the same time!)

I love how their patterns are so different:

Their relatively temporary setup until I can get a rack or build one, which will be soon:

Dinner time :D:

Samson's new live-planted tank (20gal long about 1/3 full of dirt mix. he loooves to dig :]):

I've caught his shed three times now and I finally had my camera on me:

My smooth green snake's cage next to my bed:

My exoterra setup, with two grey tree frogs, 3 bahama anoles, 1 american toad, 1 yellow spotted salamander, and 5 blue spotted salamanders (I'm a sucker for multi-species cages, and bought a taller tank so I could safely setup little microclimates):

One of the little gray tree frogs:

Well, that's it for now, but I'm sure I'll have lots more in the future :D

Re: camera happy :D
Really pretty setups. Love the snakes too.

Re: camera happy :D
Everything is awesome man good job! I love multi-species cages also and its difficult to find good ones that can co-exist happily.
-
Re: camera happy :D
Thanks :D I love using live plants and such, it makes me feel better about wintering some wild species (the blue spotted salamanders and toad). Setting up really awesome tanks is one of my favorite parts about having animals.
It is a challenge to find compatible species, but it was definitely a good excuse for me to buy an awesome tank, hahaha :P

Re: camera happy :D
Nice photos.
However, I wouldn't recommend keeping anything in the same enclosure, just because the spread of disease and parasites is a high risk as well as a great amount of stress. Especially in that one enclosure with those many species of amphibians and the lizards.

If I ever had a problem with stress or disease, I wouldn't continue to do it. However, when it's done right, they can coexist wonderfully. I make sure that all the species require very similar requirements before I put them together, and i make sure those needs are met. I wouldn't recommend that anyone do it, but I've had some sort of multi-species setup since my first viquarium (sp? the half water, half land tanks) at age 7, and feel confident in my ability to do it right :) I also wouldn't put too differently sized animals together, everything's young at the moment, so no one is too much bigger than anyone else, wouldn't want anyone to get eaten! :o

Stress isn't that noticable, sometimes I can't really tell how stressed some of my reptiles are. But those who are very experienced can see it in a split second. But the thing is, you may have species that live in completely different parts of the country (or world, I don't really know any background information on these species) that aren't used to seeing the species that are in the enclosure with them (stress factor). There is also something called cross-disease (I don't exactly remember the word, but I think I'm pretty close to it) and a disease from one species can be passed to entirely different species and that one species can die. Also, with the Ball pythons, there is such thing as cannibalism and it has happened before with this species. I'm just trying to warn you of the stuff that can happen, so don't take this as offensive (which most people on this site do anyway).

No, gosh, I'm not offended at all, it's good that you care enough to share, and other points of view and opinions are nothing but beneficial :) All of the species in the tank come from the same habitat, except the anoles. All of them, except for, again, the anoles, can be found quite easily in my area (Chicago suburb) if you know where to look. It's been fourteen years since my first setup with several species, and I kept most of them for several years before that (I was a pretty responsible kid, and was lucky enough to have parents that supported me), so I'm pretty decent at detecting stress. As for cannibalism, everything stays extremely well fed to deter that, and I haven't yet had a problem :)

Yeah, I was just sharing my concern. Once you get a rack, are the BPs going to be in separate tubs? And I have to say you do have one really nice looking Spider, I actually like that one better than mine haha:rofl: How much did you get em for?
Here's some photos of Ball python cannibalism (viewer descretion is advised):

http://img242.imageshack.us/i/cannib...yals21zh3.jpg/
If you see, the Ball python that swallowed the other is not as long as the one it swallowed. So, anything can happen really, that is why none of my snakes or reptiles will ever be housed together unless for breeding purposes.
Here's a boa constrictor that had a Ball python for a meal (they were probably housed in the same enclosure):

Re: camera happy :D
Thanks! I was really lucky with him, he was the last Spider this place had and I think he was 200, down from 275ish. :D They're each going to have their own tubs, and they were actually separated until about a month ago, when one's heat stopped working and the others' cage was broken by a mishandled electric guitar, thanks to my lovely little six year old cousin  I've just been waiting until the next show in Tinley to remedy the problem. Luckily it's next weekend :)
Those pictures are so sad :( Is it something that just occasionally happens with BPs, or do you think that they weren't fed properly? I could see a starving ball going for another. The boa doesn't surprise me. I babysat a friend's a few years back, and man, was that thing a trash bag :O I think it would've eaten my 70 pound dog, if I let it, hahaha (I'm laughing, but it probably would have :weirdface)

I wish I could get a rack, but for now I just use plain ol' sterilite tubs. They work fine though, just the cords bother me a little. And nice! Great deal for such a beautiful snake!
I wouldn't believe something like that would happen occasionally, but it can happen. I would guess rarely, since Ball pythons seem friendly to each other, but you never really know. I'm not surprised about the boa either, but I am sort of pissed off that the boa was housed with a Ball python. There is what happens when you stick two different species in one enclosure, of a different size though. I can't wait for my boa to get big, that'll be just awesome.

Yeah, I wouldn't ever put such different species or sizes together, that's when it gets highly irresponsible. I'd love a big boa, maybe one day when I move out and my dad isn't having a fit over every new little frog I bring in, let alone a snake, hahaha :D

My mom keeps sayin' no when I ask for more snakes, yet she lets me foster for as many as I want. I'll be fostering for some surrenders to get them off of my boss's hands for a bit to make things easier. They got like 500 reptiles put into our sanctuary from the raid in Arlington so I'm trying to help. Still, I'm going to foster for more than 5 snakes, but I can't have this ONE snake that will cost less than all of these fosters combined. Wonderful.

hahahaha, mothers will be mothers  I heard about that, that was insane. It's so good of you to help some, I wish I could as well :|

Yeah, some people are trying to get me not to foster some because of the diseases they could have, and I am aware of that, but I do have a room where they will be separate of my other reptiles and I know certain precautions to take. I never mind helping out, and that is what I'll do to get some of these snakes off of my boss's hands so they have less snakes to feed and worry about. I'll definitely be sure to give them the best care needed (I'm only caring for the ones I know how to care for).

Yeah, I mean, if you can, by all means do so. Those animals deserve to be cared for :gj:

Re: camera happy :D
Those are some beautiful cage set-ups you have there. I love planted terrariums :D
The only thing I would watch out for is the toad. They will eat anything that can fit in their mouth. I had a toad once that ate his tank mate and I had a bullfrog which ate his green frog tank mate. All 4 were the same size!
Frogs and toads are eating machines. He's the only one Id worry about. Wouldnt want him to eat the treefrog.
I do love the pictures tho.

Thanks! The toad's about the size of a nickel though, so I'm not to worried about him yet, hahaha. When I was younger, I used to go to lakes and ponds near my house and catch frogs, and would release them back the next time I went there. I remember letting a little leopard frog go, and watch it getting swallowed whole by a bullfrog two seconds later. Never again will I make that mistake! He's only staying until the summer time, when he'll go with us on vacation back to where he came from (my grandparents have a cabin in Land O' Lakes, Wisconsin). He's definitely not sticking around long enough to get that big :)

You bet.
Nothing's going to change my mind about fostering these reptiles.:D

Good for you! Sometimes those risks just need to be taken.

I am a risk taker when it comes to reptiles.
