Thats.....odd
So, I picked up a couple nice dinker females for next year at the columbus reptile show on the 16th. They were a decent size (800 grams) and definitely cool looking enough for me to swipe up. Well...one I have is a nice chocolatey granite type looking girl with a nice light brown head. I went to check on all my snakes this morning and she was the last one and BOOOM eggs??? Wtf. She is small as heck, so I made sure she wasn't egg bound with any more and separated her from her two viable eggs. I never would have thought. What jackass left this girl where she could get pregs; and what sucks is that now she will probably throw small clutches for the rest of her life- but at least she is alive. Anyone else have any odd stories like this one?? pics.

Re: Thats.....odd
Congrats on the eggs. But shame on the person you got her from on breeding a female ball that little. :O

Re: Thats.....odd
Aww that poor girl~! If you breed your own feeders you can add Pedialyte to their water and it'll chalk the rats up for this girl~

Re: Thats.....odd
man that just wrong in my book but heck I hope that both the eggs hatch and they give you a heck of a nice surprise babies ( just to irk the guy off a lot I send him a note or something letting him know she dropped eggs ( if the drinkers all came from the same guy I consdier checking them for signs of eggs too) cause you may end up with a lot of possible trouble or extra mouths to feed and not be ready.
i hope you have a incubator ready to go lol surprises are always that when your not prepared.
i had a pair of rescues a while back they were house together. I had just gotte nthem cleard from QT and later that day picked up another snake that went into QT well It had mites and I had managed to transport a couple to the snake room ( and with in a week they were bad ) I placed the snakes in to bags and sat into anthoer room for the night. Bps in 2 and others in another) wel lthe rescue pair got tossed together. I treated for mite and wiped them all out in a single go ( got to love strong chemicals ) and a day spent cleaning the room afterwards. I go tp place the snake back inther cages and here the pair locked up mating . anyhow it was not even a month later i had edds ( so I figuring she was gravid befoer i got her and he was just grabbing another chance . ( I got 2 of the babies left and they about the 800+ gram range now.) I was never prepared and I was looknig for all kinds of info/temp setup help until the hobuvator came in ( took about 4 days ) but I had 100% hatch rate and got it set up and ready for this year with a hope of getting a pied or 5 lol if I get lucky.

Wow. That stinks getting snakes with mites, I have never had any fortunately, but it was cool that you got eggs! Luckily I have my incubator already set up.

Re: Thats.....odd
Poor baby!
I HOPE it was an accident, but more likely being irresponsible. Especially if he had multiple snakes.
At least now she has someone to take good care of her. Hopefully she'll recover nicely, and maybe in a couple of years when she's ready to go again, she'll surprise you with a good, big clutch.
It's a good thing you know what to do with those eggs, can you imagine if someone new to snakes ended up with her? <<shudder>>
Keep us updated on her progress and her eggs. I'll be rooting for you all!

Re: Thats.....odd
Here's hoping you get some neato babies! :gj: Gorgeous female.

Re: Thats.....odd
You should name her Juno, haha. Situationally it makes sense (ish), and it suits her--she looks like a Juno, lol.

Re: Thats.....odd
Aw, Thanks Shadera :D; good to hear from you again!! I wish I could have taken better pics to show her blushing and flames off-but she was a lil cranky. tee hee
Those rat racks are working out perfectly by the way:giggle:

Re: Thats.....odd
Matt, That is funny!:rofl::rofl:
I haven't named her yet, but now I am going to name her Juno, hopefully the guy who knocked her up has better genes though.

Re: Thats.....odd
Gosh what a surprise!!! Poor little thing!
He could have easily transported/kept her with what he thought was another female. People miss sex their snakes all the time. Hopefully it was an accident like that and not carelessness.

Haha, yeah, you definitely don't want the snake version of Michael Cera to have fathered that clutch...or Michael Cera himself for the matter :P. Good luck with the clutch, I'm hoping for good things! Make sure to keep us updated in two months.
Cheers,

I think you are exactly right! I don't think anyone who has that many nice morphs would have bred her on purpose.

Yeah, I know I can't believe all three fit in a sedan; it felt like a clown car. I am indeed up to my eyeballs in the nippy furbabies:rolleye2:

Yeah, I guess you can't beat that!

Re: Thats.....odd
thats a nice looking female. hopefully she puts out some crazy little morphs from the two eggs!
-
Re: Thats.....odd
She's beautiful! Hopefully you will get some babies like her! Most likely it was an accident but you have to wonder why she was housed with other snakes in the first place even if the breeder/seller thought they were all female. It only takes one lock so if it was quick they probably didn't notice. I have bought two BP's as females that turned out to be males:(. If you get some good size on her before you breed her next she might not always have small clutches. Have you tried feeding her yet? If she's eating well I wouldn't worry about her too much.
-
Re: Thats.....odd
Yeah, you are probably right about it being housed with mis sexed others, and I don't believe it to be the fault of the breeder I got her from; but it is kinda one of those things where he could have got it from some other guys, guys, guy who imported her or whatever and in the mix of things she got knocked up. But at least she has eaten for me; thankfully.:please::please:
