What type of camera do you all use?
I know many will suggest getting a Canon Rebel, Nikon or Sony DSLR's...But could some of you that have already made the investment give me some suggestions? I'm leaning to Canon, but don't want to just make a decision because that's what many suggest and it tends to cost a bit more than the others..
Thank you in advance for your help...

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I've been using canon 5D and a couple of lenses for 3 years. No complaint whatsoever :D
I think you can't go wrong with either Canon or Nikon

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Did you get any specific model of the Canon Rebel? I've been looking at the XS, maybe the XSi...

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
D700 by nikon I also have a d50 and a fuji s5,3,2 for snakes a used s3 is a great one (the best colour of all) d50 isn't horrible the 700 is awesome but it is quite pricey. The d90 and d5000 are also quite nice. It really depends on the pocket book. Before you buy READ the manual. It will give you a better understanding of what it will do and then when you go to hold the ons you like you can then make a more informed decision. When you price the camera and are thinking of shooting snakes price out a true macro (1:1 reproduction ratio) over a kit lens. I hope that helps. I don't use Canon they make great gear too but tend to change things model to model (battery my d700 d50 s5 all will use the same one.)

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Canon v. Nikon is just like Coke or Pepsi, Ford or Chevy, etc. You're never going to get a straight answer. I personally went with a Nikon D40. It felt the best in my hands compared to the Canon. Plus a good buddy has Nikon gear, so we can swap lenses which means I have free access to even more equipment.
My suggestion is to go to a store and hold them in your hands and pick the one that feels "right". They will all take great pictures and you'll be the limiting factor, not the camera itself (at least for a while).

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I have the Pentax K10d and like it alot. I am probably going to join a photo club to get some pointers for using it correctly.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
With today's camera technology, you can get a really decent camera for a couple hundred dollars. Any DSLR camera will be a wise investment, but it's not for everyone. We've got a couple DSLR cameras, but my wife loves her small Nikon Coolpix D210. I don't think it sold for much more than $150.
Good Luck!

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
You cant go wrong with either Canon or Nikon. Its the glass that is the most important part!
I have a nikon d40x and love it.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I use nikkon D90 with 60mm lens. You can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon just try and test both, and go which one fits in your hands.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Go check out whats in your price range at a camera store. The biggest differences are not in features or specs or image quality but in feel, button placement and menu systems. I personally had a Canon Rebel XT for years and recently upgraded to a Rebel XSi. I like the layout and menu system better on the canon over the nikon in the same price range. Also, although I don't have one, I have heard the new image stabilized kit lens that comes with the canons is quite good for an entry level lens.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I just picked up the Nikon D3000 two months ago. It gives me much more control then my old point and shoot, lol. The Nikon D5000 also looks really nice if you want to shoot video.
Here's shot I just took today. I'm still trying to work on my photography skillz.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I use a Nikon D200. I have to say I LOVE Nikon, haha. I've dragged this camera through rain forests (for more than a month at a time on-site), motorcycle races in excessively hot (100 F+) temperatures, through storms to get lightning shots, and other such precarious situations--my D200 has never even hiccuped. I had a D100 prior to this, and similarly no complaints. My disclaimer is that I've never owned a Canon DSLR, as my pocketbook won't allow a fair comparison, haha. As others have said, go check them out! You're going to get a good camera either way. My based vote would be to go with Nikon though, as I can testify to their quality. Here are a couple completely unedited shots taken in the field--I don't have many shots online to choose from, but these are decent examples:

Dang love the shots...Especially the first...
I have to say I'm leaning towards the the Nikon D300...I was playing with both and really like the feel of the Nikon...
Am I missing anything major going Nikon vs. Canon??

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Nikon or canon will give you great results,as will other dslrs..Tbh all dslrs are capable of producing fantastic images.A thing most dont realise is that its the lenses you use once you have the camera. You could buy a entry level dslr and whack some stonking glass on it and be amazed with the results.I would rather invest in glass than put all my money into a body and not be able to afford decent lenses for it.Saying that I used to have an expensive kit until few months back(d200 plus some expensive lenses) but had to sell sadly and recent purchased a fuji s200 exr to get by until I can replace the dslr kit.
I have to say I am blown away by the images I am getting from this camera and for a fraction of the cost of a dslr outfit.Check out my latest images for examples taken with it in pic section.
At the end of the day a 1000-2000k camera is worth Jack if you cant use it.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I'm used to the simple point and shoot digital cameras, but my dad just got a Nikon D5000. I've been using it a ton so that I can teach him what to do. But it's simply amazing!
I highly recommend a Nikon or Canon DSLR!

Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I thought the D300 was the 10 megapixel DSLR, but I'm now seeing that it's the 12.3 megapixel camera...I know the MP doesn't make a difference, and was hoping to cut some of the cost with a 10 MP DSLR...I now can say I like the feel of the Nikon more than the Canon after playing with 2 this evening...

Different ends of the spectrum mate tbh...if your new to photography then maybe the d3000 or d5000 would be a better bet.

D3000 is the replacement for the D40 which was their entry DSLR. As someone else said, go with a cheaper body and save money for good glass. The D3000 will take excellent pictures and will last you a long long time. Then you can get new lenses for macro, or low light, or whatever you want to shoot.
As for Nikon v. Canon, doesn't matter. Both make excellent products. Don't let anyone tell you one is better than the other. They're both great and its just a personal preference.
