Re: What type of camera do you all use?

Go check out whats in your price range at a camera store. The biggest differences are not in features or specs or image quality but in feel, button placement and menu systems. I personally had a Canon Rebel XT for years and recently upgraded to a Rebel XSi. I like the layout and menu system better on the canon over the nikon in the same price range. Also, although I don't have one, I have heard the new image stabilized kit lens that comes with the canons is quite good for an entry level lens.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?

I just picked up the Nikon D3000 two months ago. It gives me much more control then my old point and shoot, lol. The Nikon D5000 also looks really nice if you want to shoot video.

Here's shot I just took today. I'm still trying to work on my photography skillz.

Re: What type of camera do you all use?

I use a Nikon D200. I have to say I LOVE Nikon, haha. I've dragged this camera through rain forests (for more than a month at a time on-site), motorcycle races in excessively hot (100 F+) temperatures, through storms to get lightning shots, and other such precarious situations--my D200 has never even hiccuped. I had a D100 prior to this, and similarly no complaints. My disclaimer is that I've never owned a Canon DSLR, as my pocketbook won't allow a fair comparison, haha. As others have said, go check them out! You're going to get a good camera either way. My based vote would be to go with Nikon though, as I can testify to their quality. Here are a couple completely unedited shots taken in the field--I don't have many shots online to choose from, but these are decent examples:

    Cheers,
    -Matt

R.I.P. Steve, I'll miss you more than you could have ever known. I love you.
