Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
Dang it! I live in Florida for a danged reason! Because it's WARM!!
(.. and I was born here, all my family and friends are here, no state income tax, good job... but I digress..)
We're getting over a week of below freezing nights, and they are even using the four-letter word for that frozen rain stuff for HERE!! FLORIDA!!!!
Oh no. I do NOT think so.
So since I've been freezing my tush off every night trying to get warm, I'm bunking in the snake room! I've told everyone, I'm sleeping in the snake room with the 40 snakes, becuase it's WARM in there!!! Removing the work table gave me room to put down a nest on the floor. Now I'll be toasty warm tonight!
Anyone else ever moved into the reptile quarters to stay warm?

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
HAH!!
It's in the NEGATIVE 20's here wind chill wise and it ain't THAT bad.
We can only hope that politicians take this into consideration on the S373 bill, there's no way these snakes can survive in those temperatures.

Last winter when the fan in our furnace screeched to a halt. Granted, it was only for half a day or so, but this was in a Michigan winter. So it was actually cold here, not like what you Floridians call cold. ;)

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!

Now we'll see if that crap about burms not surviving freezing temps is true.

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
It does get cold every once in a while in FL, but it usually only lasts for a week or so. Last night my mom called to tell me it was colder in Naples than it was here WA.

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
us floridians do call it cold, because i think even to someone up north low 30's is cold

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
It's been below zero here for a week now but at least we're used to it and the houses are built for it. I feel really bad for the people down there who don't have any experience dealing with this. The houses down there have no insulation to speak of. I suppose we'll start hearing the news reports about entire families dying from asphixiation trying to keep warm around the charcoal grill they had burning in the living room and houses burning down from faulty furnaces that weren't designed to be constantly running.

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
...it got up to 9 degrees up here today....the warmest its been in about a week...
It will be -10 when I go get the paper tomorrow morning.

HA! Our house is horribly insulated. Our thermostat is set to 60, any higher and our furnace constantly runs. It is 50 down in the basement where the snakes are.

man you know why the florida yelling it cold it cause they tickest shirt they got is a long sleve dress shirt lol.. I running aorund outside in tshirt and pant in Delaware and it only got 35 today ( with out the wind chill) I not staying long but it ewnough to feel the cold.. I bet the folrida reptiles are going wtf when they thaw out later this month if they survive the cold snape.
I got ice ther ( from all the recent rain) that about inch thick in spots and kids are tryingot walk on it so we are doing checks onthe ponds in the mornings /during the day and warning the kids to stay off it not thick enough. maybe we should let a few politations onthe ice to prove a point ( mainly those that propose these reptile reg changes)

Haha, yeah just after noon it was almost feeling like a heat wave. I was up early this morning to try to fix the rear left blinker on my truck. After about 15 minutes I couldn't feel my fingers anymore. I tried a couple of bulbs and a fuse but it still doesn't work. Cold probably cracked a solder joint or something and it'll cost to get it fixed now. Dang this cold weather...

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
You northerners have clothing and insulated houses and heaters and all to keep you satisfyingly warmed inside. The temps in my house are dropping like a rock. Found out the central heat isn't working now, apparently the ductwork is loose, and I can't fix it until after work tomorrow!
So now I have cloth hanging up to block off the unused areas, and just the living room(where the dogs and monitors are) and the snake room(duh, where the snakes and MY NEST is) are heated by space heaters.
If I lived any further north, I would DIE. I hate cold. I'm going to go crawl inside my danged oven now so I don't freeze to death.

My parents just got back to KC from my house in Florida and they said tomorrow the high is 0, not sure what the windchill is up there.

Re: Freezing temps in FLORIDA!!
COLD!
Its been so cold here it isn't even funny, though still bearable. But its been snowing and snowing, so its just piling up and not going anywhere.
Our cars have really been acting funny too, with the airbag lights coming on and ABS lights flashing, they don't like the cold :D

So because you get skunked a few nights while herping the area has been abandoned by snakes?
There is no logic behind that statement at all whatsoever.

Matt,
My statement was a joke, and while I like to make fun of Al and his pretend science, I didn't actually mean that a cold snap debunks his propaganda (it's the mountain of actual scientific data that does that- an issue for another thread). I was more making fun of the fact that if it's slightly warmer people in a certain place, or a polar bear dies that it suddenly proves that 'climate change' is man-made.
It does amaze me what a team of data-doctoring scientists and a willing media can accomplish, though.

It's wonderful, isn't it?
Don't you love how there's about 3 inches of ice on every non-snow emergency route road, and all the sidewalks as well?
Sigh. I often wonder why I came back from Hawaii. If it wasn't for a midwestern girlfriend, I'd only spend the summers here :P
