Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?
Have you ever had a time where your Ball python almost got you, whether it being a defensive strike, offensive strike, feeding strike, etc.? Well, I would love to hear them. I've had so many close calls with getting bit, it's not funny anymore.. Last night while feeding the 'kids', Monty decided that my hand looked tastier than the mouse. She stuck at me, but failed at the attempt to get me.

You can also post up your other close calls with other snakes or reptiles you've had, like if you almost got bit by your Kingsnake or almost got bit by your lizard.

Only once. The day I got my first snake she tried to bite me when I reached into her tank. I think my snakes are good tempered. I'm a good daddy =D

I was jacking with my biggest Male Blood the other day and I knew he wasnt happy about it.

He struck me on the hand but didn't bite, just an open mouth "hit".

Mind you when I expect to be bitten I dont, my reflexes are too fast.

    But this one I didn't see coming:D

    First one:D

There was one day I was feeding Micron, dropped the mouse in and then reached in with my hand to get his water bowl out. He tried to get me, but he wasn't all the way out of his hide and messed up his "spring". I lol'd. Neener neener!

    Just yesterday. Hah. :P

Not from my own, mind you, she's the biggest weenie and couldn't hurt a fly... only mice. :D

I was, however, holding a new arrival from a local pet store, and this thing was just the tiniest little hatchling you could probably ever see. Like, I was guessing it could have been 30 grams. The darn thing was way underweight, so I curse myself for not having oodles of money.

Anyway, he was a bugger. Tried to bite everything but the hand that was holding him, which is... good... I guess. :weirdface

I can tell you that I have a het pied female that weighs about 1800 - 2000 now and can't count the number of times she has gotten me. Absolute HISS pot and hates me (anyone for that matter). If I didn't love them so, she would have seen the business end of my 12 gauge a few years ago ;)

My guess is around 50+ times (I just don't care anymore...most of the time I wear gloves with her though). All of the others are angels :floating::snake:

Walked into work the other day and there was a ball python box open, with the ball python waiting for breakfast to walk by. The box was at head level and I didn't notice it until it was about 8 inches from my face. Thank god it didn't strike lol

My female burm who was 8 ft at the time bit me back in 04 on the bottom of my hand where my thumb is (ball joint of your thumb on your palm if that makes any sense) and the top of her jaw obviously was on the top of my hand behind my thumb. I had a rat in my hand and she lunged for it as I dropped it and got me. She wrapped around my whole arm and I had to get my wife to unwrap her from me so I could get her mouth open and off my hand. It was funny because my wife was saying "I don't want her to bite me" and I said "she can't bite you she is biting me".

There were lots of other times where I almost got bit by something but that one was probably the best :gj:

One time I stepped on a log while crossing a large puddle of water.

There was a fairly POed water moccasin underneath which bolted out, turned, struck at me in under 2 seconds (enough for me to almost fall in the water). It proceeded to advance towards me me for about 10 feet as I backed up as fast as I could with my heart racing.

    Oh Louisiana, fun times.

LOL!! That right there was hilarious. If an 8ft. snake was holding onto me and wrapped around my arm I'd be freaking out LOL, but that's just me. Being bit is something that I hate, but I've been bitten 5 times (3 from a Kingsnake I used to have.. mean little guy) and I still can't believe I can't handle it.. and it doesn't even hurt. I've had away to many close calls but I was so scared to get bit my handed jerked back faster than the snake can strike LOL.

Worst bite was at a friend's house. He had a 6-7 ft Retic and asked me to help him move the snake from one enclosure to another. He had the head and I had the rest. He tripped over a bucket, let go of the head and it came around and grabbed me. It coiled around my arm and started chewing. Most of my scars are gone except one. It's about 2 inches long. I probably needed stitches but I didn't get them.

As for my snakes, I've been bit more times than I care to admit, but luckily they were all from colubrids. The one that gave me the most concern was a large female Dumeril. She was very protective of her enclosure. Dums have some really long teeth and I can't tell you how many times she almost got me. Funny thing about her, once she was out of her enclosure, she was a kitty cat. She was a big Dum, almost 7 ft long. I wouldn't have wanted to get tagged by her, the Retic was enough for me.

Man that must've hurt badly! One of my fears is getting bit by a big snake, and my boa is going to get about 6ft long so hopefully he won't even try to bite me.

I used to have a Dumeril's boa, but she was only about a year and a half old, though, she didn't like me in her enclosure. She would hiss, and only strike if you gets real mad. Once she's out of her enclosure, she's as sweet as can be. Dumeril's boas are so strange sometimes:rolleyes:

My pastel Sol has tagged me once and done the head butt thing on me a couple different times. He's just a really jumpy snake. I didn't raise him and I don't think he was handled much. He get's held 3-4 times a week. He's still jumpy as all get out but that's ok.

It hurt from the time the Retic clamped on until he let go. Then it really hurt. Had to put it in a sink full of water, then it took him 5 minutes to let go. You would think that if a snake can't breath, they would let go. Well that wasn't the case. The water was red from my blood. When I finally got to see my hand, I thought he chewed it off.

My worst herp experience by far.

    Damn, I bet.

People say "The strike is more shocking than the bite." but if it was your case it would be "The strike was least shocking than the bite." because a bite like that would be extremely shocking to me LOL.

Re: Your Close Calls With Almost Getting Bit?
To be honest, I never saw the strike. I guess I was watching the owner while he was falling over a 5 gal bucket. When my friend went down, I guess I squeezed the snake a little harder than when I was just carrying him. I guess the snake took it as aggression and whipped around and tagged me. At the same time it coiled around my hand and when I let go of the snake, it coiled around my forearm. That's really when i felt the bite. He was chewing on my hand. He had my thumb in it's mouth and had his teeth into the meaty part of my thumb.

About a month ago I had my adult corn snake around me neck/shoulders and I was talking to my boyfriend. Out of nowhere killer(who is usually very nice and calm) struck at his head. But his teeth only caught some of his hair. I thought it was funny.. my boyfriend didn't agree :snake:

I take it he's not a snake person. Interesting how non-snake people don't like to see a snake strike at anything, much less at them.

I've been bitten by kingsnakes and six foot boas, and partially swallowed by a shoestring of a corn snake who tried to eat my pinky finger. I've been struck at by a fifteen foot Burmese which belonged to a buddy of mine - it took her a few seconds to extract her teeth from the doorjamb, and half-full was suddenly "good enough" for her water bowl, LOL!

Just this evening, while cleaning tubs, my albino blood - still something of a youngster - took a couple of pops at my face. It's a good thing he missed, 'cause all I could see outta the corner of my eye was teeth and tonsils!

Kinda made me laugh. Also made me glad I don't keep hots.

He loves my snakes though. And he wasn't mad about it. He was just annoyed that I was laughing at him. But for whatever reason if i'm holding killer, he doesn't like my boyfriend.. I'm not really sure why. killer doesn't mind when he holds him.

Only my Pastel Lesser struck at me...Calmed him down after a day or two of handling...

Now that I've been bitten by the TIC ADDICTION BUG...I understand the phrase, "know your tic and watch the eyes"...3 out of 4 are good, but my SD Normal strikes at me every time...Wild little cuss, but the prettiest normal I've seen in awhile...

My Beardie has bit me twice but I think she smelled food on my hands.
My tarantula usually rears up but she's never bit anyone yet.
I got bit by one of the Leopard Geckos...it was shacking its head back and forth and everything.
Deja struck at me but just smacked her nose against me.
Got bit by a fuzzy rat earlier today, it was the funniest thing ever...next to the loepard gecko bite...
My tegu tried to eat my feet earlier tonight, signaling it was time for food or my socks just looked really interesting (neon pink and green polka dots).

Other than those I haven't had mishaps...oh, Deja decided she was going through my beltloop while I was holding her, she got two feet through and then decided I was doing something to keep her from going through and acted like she was going to strike at me, we had to cut her out...why couldn't I wear my crappy pants that day. Cut the rest of the belt loops off of those pants. Then while I was getting her out of the car she tried to go down into the seat belt holder thing (actually going down into the frame of the truck so there's a hole there), when I pulled her head out she whipped around and took a swipe at my neck.
