Adult Pastels
I hear alot about Pastels "browning out". Can some of you post some adult pastel pics? i would just like to see some examples of brighter pastels and browned ones. I appreciate it!
Thanks,

Re: Adult Pastels
My male pastel Augie is a good example of the browning.
As a juvenile:

As an adult:

He's my pet so the browning didn't bother me - I think it makes him look more mature :gj:
I think (and may be wrong...) that you can tell if/how much a pastel will brown by looking at the shading of the scales. Orange scales or scales that aren't clear bright yellow - will darken to some shade of brown. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong since I don't know much and would like to know if it's true ;)

Lemon is just the NERD line of pastels, there is no difference other than the name.

Re: Adult Pastels
actualy i think if i was keeping a pastel as a pet it would make me  if it browned out, but not as a breeder because the look dosent count to me, its the genetics. But then again i hate referring to balls as just breeders and not pets because all of my ball pythons that i breed are also my pets

It should matter even MORE to you as a breeder. Why would you want to pass on the genetics for a browned out pastel? Breed quality and you'll produce quality. Breed crap and you'll just be producing more crap.

Re: Adult Pastels

Re: Adult Pastels
So, out of curiosity, whos pastels would you guys say hold their color the best?

Re: Adult Pastels
Here is my 06 Male. He browned out quite a bit... He now seems to have yellow sides comparable to the white side of a spider. I still think he has a wicked cool pattern though.

Re: Adult Pastels
I seem to recall a few years ago when pastels were priced in the thousands, breeders claiming that brown pastels can throw bright yellow babies and vice versa. Similar to how a low white pied can produce high whites. For people that have bred pastels do you find this to be true? Or are people with brown pastels stuck with a lifetime of breeding brown babies...

IMO, no line is better than any other. You just have to look for the brightest, cleanest yellow hatchling you can find regardless of which line it happens to be.

Re: Adult Pastels
Excellent snakes everyone! I love the blushing on a few of them!
Are there any indicators I could look for to determine weather my Pastel will brown...or at least to what degree?

Re: Adult Pastels
Heres a pick of my boy Geb, he is well over a year and a half old, coming up on 2 years ways in around 1100 and is still one of the best examples of a pastel Ive seen, :)
