I think he figured it out...
I just went to check on Toby & Mona, after re-introducing him into her tub earlier today... I thought they were just cuddling in the hide again, but when I lifted it I found them in a FULL lock! :gj:
Unfortunately I did interrupt them, so he loosened the lock when I moved the hide - and before I could grab the camera. But I got some pictures of the semi-lock, and they were already getting back into position when I left. Promise not to bother them for the next 2-3 days, and then Toby will get a break before going back in. I'm so excited!! How long until the babies come again?? LOL... :D
Is this what I think it is??

They seem to be done for the night (just peeked in), but I also noticed one of them made a pee-pee... so I'll clean the tub later, and then leave them together until Tues or Wed. Another question - since I started my "breeding season" earlier than usual, should I end it sooner? And/or will Mona determine that by showing signs of ovulation?
P.S. I finally bought the McCurley book, so it's time to read the breeding section thoroughly now... ;)

Thanks... I can't wait either! :D Pastels aren't worth big money or anything, but I personally think Toby is a prime example of the morph. So between his blushing and Mona's nice reduced pattern & high white, I'm hoping they produce some sharp hatchlings. I won't care regardless, and will probably be in love with each and every one... even if they all come out as normal males. They'll be a product of my babies, which is special enough on its own. ;)
Re: I think he figured it out...
Oh, but I am hoping for a HOT female pastel, which I could breed back to Toby or Vinnie (my spider) in the future... :please:
Re: I think he figured it out...
Congrats on the lock! How exciting!

I say breed the female pastel if you get one to Vinnie and get a bumblebee. Pastels are cheap buy one if you want a pastel for Toby. This way you can have a super pastel to breed to the bumblebee and get killer bees.
Re: I think he figured it out...
How long were they like that? To me, it does not look like the male has quite got it yet in your pic.
Re: I think he figured it out...
dont think thats a lock :( at least to me...
Re: I think he figured it out...
^ He has already said they loosened the lock when he took the pic. *shrug*
Nice lock. Post some pics of the process! ;)

Yup, you are right - except for the fact that I'm a girl, LOL. :D He was tightly locked when I interrupted, and let go by the time I grabbed the camera... they're still together, squished in the cave again, so I'll leave him there until tomorrow.
Re: I think he figured it out...
I wish my Male Pastel would lol! Hes a 1st year breeder. Big Congrats
Re: I think he figured it out...
Here's a slightly better picture of the "lock" (thought this was blurry or I'd have posted it yesterday)... and two more of them just hanging out together. He looks SO tiny next to her! :D

See the blood spot? Is that from her? I remember seeing something about that in a breeding video, but can't remember what it's called... she hasn't eaten in weeks, so I know it's not from a mouse!

Yeah, you're probably right... that was my original plan, but I've had trouble finding a female pastel that "wows" me.
Re: I think he figured it out...
By the look of where his vent is.....I would say that is a "lock" but not a sucessful one. I might be mistaken but by the way the males hemipenes protrude his tale has to be facing the other way. I could be wrong though. He sure is trying though. Keep pairing them and he will sooner or later find the "right" way.:gj:
Re: I think he figured it out...
That first picture above looks more like he's just tail wrapping. He's under her vent, but his isn't near it. That doesn't mean he hasn't had a successful lock yet, but he's at least trying. My normal male had a lot of false locks before I caught him doing it right, lol. Here's one I just took of him and my more promising female this season. Between him and the pin this girl should be good to go, crossing my fingers she ovulates!

And a blurry one of the same girl with my pin (sadly the only morph remotely interested in breeding)

Re: I think he figured it out...
Not quite a lock IMO, but they are trying.
If you look how far down the males tail is.....the vent would be past the female (by those pictures)
