    ways to treat resp. infections.
just waznted to see if any one had some good working ways to treat resp. infection at home. yes i no the best way is to go to the vet. (for all you crazy people out there lol.) but i just wanted to see if any one new of any thing that works. i have been told that soaking them in like 95 deg. water for 3 days can work. i just want to see what you guys have done. thanks alot.

Soaking them in 95° water? Nope, whoever told you that was inaccurate. However you can help them by raising the temperature on the cool side, and if you can, possibly the hot side, assuming it's not where it's suposoto be at already. The only thing that can cure RI is a vet though.

    EDIT:
When I say help them, I mean prolong any long-term damage, or from them getting any worse, while you wait for the vet, but it won't cure them, only antibiotics can do that.

Fist off get your husbandry right and it should help them while you make an appointment to the vet. Then go to the vet.

Raising the temps and humidity can help battle the RI.. However they can trun real bad in a heart beat so don't wait to late to get it to the vet.

Also change the water every day washing the bowl every time you change it..and make dang sure their enclosure is clean.. If I were you I'd clean it every 2-3 days.. I mean clean it goood!

A snake with a respiratory infection needs to see a vet so it can be put on some antibiotics. Obviously you would not treat bronchitis by soaking in a bath that is 95 degrees for three days.
This is a care sheet that will explain why the snake got one to begin with and what to do to help your snake until you can get him/her to the vet.

Sorry I've never had to worry about RI. Why? I keep my husbandry right and don't purchase snakes from people who don't.

And with any kind of infection you don't just say "oh, well, lets just fluff your pillow, you'll be fine" you take them to the friggin doctors/vets so that they can be given an antibiotic. Anything else just won't cut it.

Unfortunately, there are no home treatments for RI. In the meantime, the best thing to do would be to raise your temperatures on both ends of the enclosure to help keep the RI stable until you seek a vet. An RI can get really bad in little or no time, so seeking a vet quickly would be the smart thing to do. Raising the temperatures will increase the snake's immune system, and help keep the RI stable from getting any worse, but this is only temporary.

I would definitely try getting to a vet as fast as you can because this RI can get really bad quickly, as I have stated before. I remember I made a thread like this a while back when my Kingsnake had RI, and in the end I ended up getting him treated by a vet.

I think your mom smacked you a little too hard, because obviously your brain isn't functioning too good now is it? Some people aren't looking to run an Animal Rescue Organization! They are looking to purchase healthy, High Quality, Animals to add to their collection... And you shouldn't be talking about
"any animal that you can take in and help. you should.", because you dont even know how to cure a respiratory infection...

Can we play nicely here for just a moment?
Back to the beginning, what exactly is the current situation? It is kind of hard to help someone if we are not fully informed of what exactly is going on.
Secondly...What exactly are your heat/humidity readings, and your current set up? This is not to throw you under the bus, this is just to get a basic idea of what kind of husbandry is going on. I think everyone genuinely just wants to help.
Third....take a glance at the care sheet I posted, to see if it is indeed an RI. If so, the snake needs antibiotics prescribed from a vet.

Re: ways to treat resp. infections.
The point that everybody is trying to get across, is that if your snake is ill, you should take it to the vet, not try to use a home remedy to cure it. If you were sick with something that could do significant damage to you, and you could be cured with a doctor visit, would you like if somebody sat you at home and tried home remedys? That is the only point all of us is trying to make.

To the OP - you ASKED A QUESTION here and people are responding. You need to take it down a notch or two in your responses to the people who were trying to answer your very GENERIC question.

No one assumed that yours has one. This thread is going to be read by others who MIGHT be facing a RI, and therefore, the information that is shared here is meant to help the general population here, not just you.

To leave anything out (like husbandry issues) would be a dis-service to the community.

If anybody has a question because their snake may have a RI, they can easily post the question theirself. It's not about making money, none of us own a Vet's office, and none of us are going to profit off of anything, so where do you get it that all of us are in it to make money?

The OP doesn't have an RI. He is only asking if anyone knows of any home remedies, or procedures to use while you are waiting for vet appts, etc. He already knows you have to take them to a vet. He was just asking if anyone knew of any alternatives ( in an un-neccessarily large font, I might add).

    Wow....

What a way to make some friends eh?

Come to this thread, acting like you are gonna save people from RI's but just come off looking like a fool.

I would suggest you finish up your Captain Crunch Cereal, take the bus to scool, and come back after you've finished your home work.

Once again, if anyone (directed towards the people that the OP intended to help) needs some helpful info about RI's please refer to this link

    http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules/...warticle&id=50

and for the sake of your animals please do not believe that this is something that can be treated at home, take your animal to the vet.

The reason I don't do this is because I'm a college student and have enough money to take care of my snakes and myself, with a bit left over, and that's it. I can't afford to house sick snakes and risk the rest of my animals getting sick, and even risk my friend's animals getting sick just through contact with me as my entire living space becomes infected.

Thank you. My post wasn't to be mean, it's crucial that you get the animal to the vet, there isn't another way to treat RI, even if the animal seems to be doing better you want to get them to a vet.

Which they do. Constantly. Every time someone who is inexperienced has a sick snake they ask. And while it can be minorly irritating seeing as how there are 5 other topics on the same thing on that page, I'm quite sure EVERYONE here will give them the same advice and not blow up at them. We've seen it a million times and we've reacted the same way each time, and we're not going to stop telling people to go to the vet. There is no ghetto cure for RI, you have to have antibiotics, and they need to be of the right type and amount for your specific snake.
