Something Weird Just Happened To Me

Ok Im at home listening to music and all the sudden my sister comes in my room with two cops behind her because apparently my neighbors called the cops on me because I own a snake, Anyway they see my snake and since shes a ball python they just said that I didnt need a permit for her and left. Seriously can my neighbors stop trying to get us in trouble. Has this ever happened to anyone here?

LOL. I know people that have had issues with their neighbors, not in real life, but on here, and I don't think it was taken like that. Well not normally, as far as your neighbor though, I wouldn't want to give you any bad advice, but if I was in that situation, it would be a living hell for them. It's not hard to make people really regret stuff like that lol. Don't get yourself in trouble though, i'm just rambling on because I hate idiots like that.

Yeah, dumping a thousand crickets through their mail slot is NOT something you want to think about. Not even for one tiny second. Nope. Just don't. Not a good idea.

Dude, that sucks. Do you happen to live in Florida? I'm in SW FL and people are getting really freaked out about the pythons here. No one seems to understand that its only the Burmese pythons that cause problems, mostly from people who impulse buy them from pets shops, then dont want them when they get bigger.

On a side note, I do support having to buy a permit for the larger snakes for the simple reason of preventing uneducated owners. I researched ball pythons for a month before buying one, knowing what I was getting into. I have nothing against someone owning a large snake, as long as the potential owners know how to take care of it and what needs it will require 1, 5, and 10 years down the road. If the states would approach us constructively rather than attacking us with restrictions, Im sure they would get much more cooperation from the retile owning community.

When I used to keep Burmese pythons I had someone call Child Protetctive Services on me. They said as long as I had locks on the cages they could not tell me I could not have pets.:D

You no whats the funny part is that they are moving either today or tomorrow. So really no reason to call them because it doesnt matter to her she isnt living here anymore.

I had a neighbor who would call the cops on us for everything. One time we had the fire dep show up because of a "wildfire" in our back yard. It was a small fire in a stone lined pit, with a steel grate over the top. The fire marshal took one look, laughed and walked away.

I also live in NJ and had the ASPCA come to my apartment a few years ago when I lived there. He said there was a complaint about my animals and he needed to come in to see them. After he saw what I had and how everything was kept he told me why he was sent there. They received a call that I had venomous snakes, crocodilians and my dogs where not taken care of properly. He told me he has never seen snakes so well cared for in tanks so well kept. At the time my snakes where in glass tanks. This was about 5 years ago. I just wish people could mind their own business and go about their our lives. This is how problems start. I am not one to soon forget and I found out who made that call:devilish:

I don't think retaliation is in order, but it does erk me that tax payer resources sre being used to investigate such a frivilous accusation. Maybe the govrnment should give her money to ease her trauma due to having a snake owner next door. It doesn't matter if we don't have the money, they just print it and we pay for it later!:taz:

Those are the type of neighbors i avoid. When i moved into my new place i met the neighbors before i put hte down payment on new house. My neighbors are both retired 75 year olds who now come over once a week to watch the snakes feed and learn about them.

They were terrified of them at first but now i cant keep them away.

Theres always the sour apple in each neighborhood who wants attention at all times. Just be glad their gone and you get a cool reptile neighbor

I think the problem is that many people are afraid of snakes because of the negative comments they've heard and bad stories they've heard involving snakes. Most people don't understand how great snakes can be since they are always thinking about snakes in a negative way. When people hear words like "constrictor", "boa", "python", or "boa constrictor", they automatically think "killer" because they know that pythons and boas can constrict and kill a person, but they don't know that pythons and boas don't always get to the 20-30 feet that they think they do. Also, when some people hear the word "snake" they would think "venomous" or "poisonous" which means that they think that snake has the potential to use its venom to kill them.

I think you should have a talk with your neighbors and try to inform them about your snakes, as well as other species too to let them know that all snakes are not considered venomous or killers and don't have the potential to kill.

The reason she called the cops is because she hates us she knew I had a snake day I got her but on day shes moving then she has a problem.

ALL pythons and boas are illegal here in San Francisco, but they generally don't bother private keepers - only retailers who sell them. When I got my first BP in Berkeley, they warned me about this stupid law. He said "don't make any enemies, because they could call animal control on you." :cool: They are legal in the surrounding counties, so if that happened I'd either move 5 miles away, or temporarily keep them at my mother's house (in Santa Clara county). Anyway, I'm sorry that happened to you! I've had nosy neighbors in the past, and they can be a real pain in the butt... try to keep the peace, though, because it's just not worth having a neighborly feud.

P.S. I love the cricket idea, LOL. :D
