Ahh! Someone talk me down... making sudden purchases online at 10pm....

MUST RESIST THE URGE TO BUY MORE SNAKES!!!

I want a male lesser to breed to my pastel and fire when they're big and ready, and I found some lessers of moderate quality for only $400... but I know nothing about the seller and no one answers topics in the Inquiry Forum.

What I should be doing is working on calculus and going to bed so I can wake up tomorrow to go to class, but every problem I finish I spend another 10 minutes here, or on my email looking over the pictures. I have a strong urge to reply "SEND ME ___ AND HAVE IT HERE ON A THURSDAY!!!! *throws money at the seller*" And obviously this is a bad idea and I need to wait to find some people to vouch for this purchase and think about it over the week.

But no matter what I do I cant stop thinking about it, and wanting it, and being like "Forget the issues, BUY BUY BUY!" And I have a feeling that when I go to bed I'm going to really really wish I had bought those sleeping pills I saw the last time I was at the pharmacy, because there is no way I am going to sleep tonight.

Have you checked the person out at www.faunaclassifieds.com. ?

I would not buy from an online seller that you can't find any info on. Post up an inquiry thread here and on the BOI to see if anyone has dealings with the seller.
I also would advice against lessers of "moderate" quality for that money. The way prices are heading you can probably find top examples for around the same money.

Aww, I had to register at Fauna Classifieds and it says it's waiting to be moderated by an administer... Guess I won't be going there tonight, lol.

As for the snakes themselves:

Part of me is like OOO look at those cool patterns, but another part is saying "hrm, those are really busy and I'm not sure about the blushing on them as there seems to be a bit too much black on all but one."

:/ But finding a $400 lesser has not been easy, in fact finding a lesser at all hasn't been all that easy since I don't have transport to the local show. Plus winter is around the corner, meaning having them shipped won't work in like... a month.

There are no BOI posts on anyone by that name.

I know it seems like a really great deal, but I think you may just want to refuse it.

$400 for a Lesser seems too low, well to me at least. The lowest I've seen a Lesser was at $800. But really, if someone wanted to sell a Lesser for that low of a price, there has to be something up with it. Sometimes people sell their animals for a low price because they think someone would buy it because it's low but the animal will most likely have problems.

Thanks for the reply, but your price is a bit high, I've seen 8Ball has been selling Lessers for 600 since the beginning of the year, and I have seen other places price them around the same, which is why I don't see 400 as suspiciously low. Although it does include shipping...

Trust me, I get the late night "Buy It!!!"s too, so I understand. But from my crazy little corner of data, I think you should wait until you find something you really, really like. $400 isn't crazy cheap for lessers. The average price on KS/Fauna for a male lesser for both July and August is around $435. And so far for September, it's around $390.

I've been tracking prices since November, and I think they're going to drop a little more before we see the bottom. Save your money and wait for that super hot boy that makes your jaw drop. It'll be worth it.:D

Thats crap and a big reason that it's such a rough time for people getting into the hobby to sell their animals. I have at least 5 excellent transactions as a buyer, but it's not like the sellers all go on FC and BP.net and post how good their buyer was. Sure, some of the small guys do but it's not that common.

Buy for Quality not price!!! As far as not buying from a reputable source, do some research, if you can't find any information ask around, if you can't get any information after that just call the person and ask a lot of questions, if they make you feel comfortable about buying from them then have at it, if not well, I trust you to follow what your gut says.

That's so weird, because I've tried emailing him twice in the past - and didn't get a response either time. :weirdface I know he's one of the top "good guys," so I'm wondering what happened... maybe my email went into his spam, or vice versa?? That right there is reason enough not to buy right now. The problem with instant gratification is that we "settle" for the best deal, not the best quality.

I've been wanting a lesser for 2 years now. I've JUST found the lesser that I want to add to my collection. And he's stunning.

I think anyone considering breeding really needs to take a long hard look at why they want to breed. Is it only to produce more of the same to sell, or is it to produce the very best examples of the morphs you're working with to improve the morph? God knows we have enough muddy pastels out there because breeders just threw pastels at any old normal, whether she complimented the gene or not.

Yeah thats why I said I have good transactions as a buyer, but that doesnt mean that the seller is going to come around and say how smooth the transactions went.

How are we as up and coming breeders supposed to make a name for myself when the community's best advice is buy from the big breeders and dont buy from anyone who you cant find information about? That is what is crap.

I didn't say only big breeders. You can find tons of info about smaller breeders. The main point I was making in my original post was it's a bad call to be up late and falling into the "I want a lesser so I'm going to just order one" state of mind. I was saying to take the time to find out about the seller rather than clicking "buy it now" and crossing his fingers. There are plenty of people who I would buy from that are very small breeders. I will say that the only person I've purchased a snake from without researching was a local breeder. I picked up at his house and was able to inspect everything before buying. It was a great experience and I posted that great experience on the BOI. If more people took the time to do that instead of just complaining with "bad guy" threads it would be easier to get info on smaller breeders.

When I was starting out, no one knew who I was. I was trying to sell hets worth thousands of dollars without any type of reputation or references.

It wasn't easy, but I worked my a$$ off to make my dream come true ... I built a nice website, got out on every message board I could and helped as many people as possible, acted professionally and politely ... listened to what potential buyers wanted from a breeder and tried to offer those things ... and most importantly, I took the time to build and follow a business and marketing plan ... and ya know what ... it worked. ;)

If you're willing to do the work, it doesn't matter who else is saying what ... be patient, follow your own plan, and it will happen.
