    Waterfall in tank?
Is it okay to put a Exo-terra waterfall in my BP tank? I have it from my old gecko tank. It has been bleached. It is the small size and I just want it because it looks cool and may raise humidity a bit. My humidity is okay now but I am worried about the winter!

I don't see why it wouldn't work but your better of just making some sort of humid hide.

I think it would be pretty cool... and it shouldnt hurt by any means... the only thing you might have to worry about is when your ball gets bigger and is climbing on it, there could be a chance it tips it over... but thats the only real concern i can think of :)

Secure the crap out of it, but yeah that would be way cool especially if youre using a tank, would make a great display.

Just one thing, I have multiple BPs that like to poop in their water. The water wall might become a PITA to clean all the time.

If the pump or running water makes noise I would think it would drive the snake insane.

Snake do not hear noise. They can only feel vibration.

Thanks all! It is very heavy and sturdy! It would be very hard to tip it over!

I thought the same thing about the pump hum, over time may drive the snake batty.

It could be a breeding ground for bacteria. I would not use one especially if your snake is prone to defacating or uninating in the water. They might not recognize it as a water source.

Also, if you are trying to make it a display cage, I recommend using a different species. This is because balls *should* be in their hides 90 percent of the time. GTPs and ETBs are much better because they do not hide. Make sure you are properly skilled before trying such a hard species though.

So you are telling me noise isn't vibration?

I think you know what he means.

Noise is in fact, vibrations traveling through the air. But the only vibrations snakes "hear" are the ones coming from the ground. Like a predator walking up to it to maybe try and eat it. The snake would feel the vibrations of the predator's feet on the ground.

If the noise is loud engough, the room will shake, just like subwoofers in a car. (You know, the noisy teenagers that make the ground shark when you pull up near their car.) That is when snakes will start to be stressed by "noise"

Hope that makes more sence to you,

Yes but an electric motor spinning at high rpm inside and on a glass aquarium seems like it would make a lot of vibrations.

the exo terra waterfalls sure look nifty, and i liked the sound of the running water, but to be honest, it was the worst PITA EVER to clean! when i had one for my cornsnakes viv i had to clean it at least once a week, which involved unplugging it and digging it up form the aspen and unweaving it through all the hides/vines etc. i really hated it and stopped using it after about 2 months.

The pump will not bother the snake at all unless it is putting out a serious vibration. Snakes cannot hear.

Very cool idea as long as it can't be tipped over and you dont mind the mess when your snake always wants to investigate it. You may end up with a flooded tank or have to clean it alot if the snake goes potty in it. Otherwise i think its a great idea.

i have a mid sized exo-terra waterfall and i think my bp loves it.he always climbs and sits on it.it is a pain to clean but im keeping it.i also have a fogger in it and when air is low humidity it keeps his tank 60-70%.and the mid size i can say is very sturdy it wont tip.

    Re: Waterfall in tank?
It wouldnt be a breeding ground for bacteria, its running which makes the bacteria less likely to be able to survive in it (not incapable, just less likely). It would, however, bump your humidity up like nobodies business, I wouldn't suggest high humidity substrate with it. Your snake may not drink from it, you might want a small bowl near it so it can drink. And watch your humidity levels, too much can cause scale rot.

The vibrations will actually travel through the tank, but it will be constant so it wont be as irritating as a bass speaker or an unstable fan. Psychologically your snake should be fine, but know that BPs have a tendency to find ways to knock things over, if it's hard and it's in a glass tank it could smash right through if it falls over.

After a few weeks of using it, it seems that my ball is enjoying it because he lays right on top of it! It doesn't vibrate! I put it on my washer and it didn't make any noises! It was designed for use by reptiles. I took the towel of the screen top and the humidity is a constant 58%. He does have a large water bowl as well. It looks cool! He spends most of the time in his hide. He eats great too! I like my tank looking nice but my priority is his happiness! If he looked stressed or did not eat then I would take it out! He is my only baby so I spend alot of money and time on him!

This is not my first reptile and I have done alot of research as well. My friend is also a breeder and I have helped him with his snakes for a few years. I am much older than alot of people on this site and have the money and knowledge to take very good care of him. He does have a large water bowl too! He does spend most of his time in his hide and I have had him for a couple of months and he feeds great! Moving water has less bacteria in it than sitting water! It is very easy to clean as well!

I hope you cemented it down in some way, again balls like to get behind things and manage to find a way to knock most anything over, so be cautious if you are using a glass tank. Other than that I have no arguments if your humidity is fine and the snake likes it, just be safe with the whole snake busting out all jailbreak style on you.
