    Tub too COLD
so im switching to tubs im tryin to get the temps right but my thermostat wont let my temps go higher than 88 F i have a BAH-100sc and the probe is between the UTH and the tub...any suggestions? can i put it inside the tub at all without it being harmful?

To clarify, the thermostat probe goes outside the tub, or between the tub and the UTH. The thermometer probe goes inside the tub right on the plastic where the UTH is.

The thermometer should read ~92*F. Do you have the thermostat turned up all the way?

yes i have the themometer probe and thermst probe where theyre supposed to be and turnd the thermst all the way up to see if it would reach 92*F but it doesnt it keeps it at 88 would putting the probe on the outside of th UTH worl better then between the tub and UTH?

You could give it a try. Also, if you haven't already, try raising the tub a bit so there is some airblow below the UTH.

    Re: Tub too COLD
i place the probe else were and see if you can get the inside temp higher (like between 2 layer fthe plastic (tub thickness ) so it takes longer to get up to temp then just adust it to the temp your tub needs.

    some like this text refernce

    probe
    plastic
    plastic
    under tank heater

that and can placea piece of plastic above the probe to limit some heat lost .. but i would seriously keep a close eye on the tub temps until get stable.

    Hi,

Is the snake in the tub at the moment?

If it isn't could you try plugging the heatmat directly into the wall just to check it has the grunt to get the temps up to the required level?

What thermostat do you have and what kind of setting options does it give you?

    **edit**

Just saw you have a big apple herp thingy - is it set as high as it will go or have you set a specific temp or somehting. I've never seen one so do not know how they work.

    **end edit**

    Tub
    Heat Mat

    Hi,

So is the dial as high as it will go?

I still think its best to have it this way.

    Tub
    Probe
    Heat mat
    Air gap
    Whatever it sits on.

    :)

    Re: Tub too COLD
yes but when i did that the probe would get TOO hot and even with it dialed all the way up it would only reach 88 F

    Hi,

Hence my suggestion to make sure the heatmat can get the job done first - if it can then the thermostat simply doesn't have a wide enough range.

Trying to find a place to put the probe where it doesn't get heated as much by the matt is a tricky solution as it leads to other possible problems.

Couple of things to check first just to rule them out.

How and where are you measuring the temps (i.e. above or below the substrate, inside or outside the hide etc.)

How long are you leaving the temps to stabilise between changes?

If the worst comes to the worst can you get refunds/ replacements for either the thermostat or heat mat?

    Re: Tub too COLD
well the mat does get hot enough the probe is under the newspaper substrate
im also leaving the temos for around 45 minutes to an hour and im not sure if i can get one on the therm but im sure i can for the heat mat

    Hi,

This might be a daft idea but put a hide over the place where the probe is.

In my system the hide traps some of the heat so you might be lucky.

The only other thing I can think of is getting a thermostat that has a higher top temp. :(

    Anyone else got any ideas?

    Hi,

Well it is possible to use a second UTH on the cool side connected to the thermostat through a dimmer switch or rheostat. :)

Or simply raise the room temp of course.

    Hi,

You could try a raised heat lamp pointing towards the cool end but I'm not sure how you would control that with the variance of the room temps?

I just added a second UTH to my racks and put them on a seperate thermostat.
