Strength & Balance

My BP falls over quite a bit when he’s out at night, he goes up the walls of the viv then sometimes flops down with a loud thump, he occasionally lands on the log or the water bowl & occasionally the metal lock and sometimes knocks his head on them.
Don’t know if this means anything.
Does he not have the strength to keep his balance when climbing up things?

When I go to pick him to get him out for a bit he feels limp an doesn’t tense his body.
Could it be that he feels comfortable being handled?
Again I don’t know if any of this means anything.
Would like to know if this is normal or not & or am I just being paranoid about everything he does.

It is normal, that's just what happens when snakes try to climb up smooth walls. LOL

Would he not get hurt/injured falling on to solid objects?

He won't as long as the objects aren't sharp. It's not high enough for them to get hurt.

If he is being constantly active at night though, it generally means he is either hungry and you could be feeding more/larger prey items. Or he is too cold or insecure/the temps or hides are not appropriate. I don't know your husbandry, so I'm just posting info if you wanted to look into it.

The cold end I keep within 79*f and 83*f
The hot end is usually a stable 85*f-86*f
The surface temps:
Hot end. 85*f - 90*f
Cold end. 79*f - 83*f
Surface temp is checked with a temp gun.

I use two digital hygrometer’s, one in the centre of the viv & the other which is only a small one I put next to the hide he stays in, I switch ends depending on which side he’s at.
I try to keep it within 50% - 60%.

Those are fair temps! How much does he weigh and what are you feeding him, and how often? Though I'm guessing you probably feed him properly, since everything else is correct. Some bp's just decide to be very active at night.

One of mine isn't active at all, though I sometimes wish she was. :oops:

I have four boys, it’s not unusual to find one up, or just sitting out in the open. I get a bit more cruising this time of the year, assuming looking for love. What I hate is when they flip a hide and it makes so much noise bouncing off the glass. My God for such a light object it scares or wakes half the house lmao. Almost as funny as when they really rip one and it’s crazy loud. It makes me smile just thinking about it!

Same here I keep him in my room which is in the loft/attic. At night I turn the sound from the tv off, put headphones on and still hear him thumping away.
