Does anyone know if anyone has attempted crossing blue eyed leucistics with other blue eyed leucistics, in theory they would throw 100% BEL offspring correct? It's a project I'm considering, and was just wondering if success has been had with this cross.

I'm sure it has been done but I personally would only do it if it was certain BEL combos. Like a Mojave x Lesser BEL to a Super Mojave BEL, that way you will be able to tell which ones are Super Mojaves and Mojave x Lessers. Doing a pairing like Mojave x Lesser to Mojave x Lesser, you wouldn't be able to tell which ones are the Super Lessers and which are the Mojave x Lesser BELs.

One the other hand, I think it would be fun to mix it up a little. Like breeding a Karma (Lesser x Phantom) to a Mojave X White Diamond just to see if you actually could tell the difference between them.

    avoid the production of:

    -super lesser
    -super butter
    -lesser butter
    these often go blind.

Go for the not completely white BELs, like mystic potion. Or make very white BELs using only one copy of lesser/butter.

With that i want to say they have genetic eye issues, and a certain percentage of them, definitively in the two-digit percentages, go blind. Blind ball pythons still can live a perfectly fine life, but its not something to aim for, or is it?

    Just bug-eyed, right?

On the topic of bug-eyed, are bug-eyes genetic? i.e. if I took a super lesser with bug eyes and bred it to a mojave, would the lesser, and lesser-mojave babies have bug eyes?

No, only super lesser, super butter, and lesser butter have the problem. Any snake with just one copy of the lesser/butter gene and with one other gene like mojave, mocha, special, mystic, phantom can be a perfectly healthy very white BEL.

And i mean, yes, its genetic, super lesser or super butter or butter lesser just harms the eyes, and they often turn blind, which is also why many believe lesser and butter to be two versions of the same thing, because even a lesser + butter BEL can get the eye problems.

Any snake with just one copy will be fine, so you can for example use a blind super lesser for breeding and produce only healthy BELs and combos with it, all offspring gets one copy and when its just one copy all is nice and fine and there are no problems and the eyes will be fine.

Its easy to work around it :) So many genes in the BEL complex, its a minor issue really.

If I were you, I'd breed Mojave x Lesser to Super Mojave. All BELs, no eye problems, a spice of variety, and an all-round beautiful clutch!
