super butters?
My husband & I have a hobby breeding collection of ball pythons. We have a lovely butter female that should be ready for her first breeding season next year. We've been debating back & forth about who to pair her to & in the process of deciding a question has come up. My husband has always wanted to produce a blue eyed lucy, cool beans... I'm on that. Well a breeder at a show mentioned that butter to butter breedings can be lethal. Thats news to us.... buuutttt.... we would like the reassurance of other breeders who have worked with butters. Neither of us has Ever heard from Anyone else that the "super butter" has any problems, just this one guy. :confusd:

Re: super butters?
They are not lethal, but they do have high chances of producing bug eyed BELs.

How high of chances? I mean its a possibility but I don't think its as big of a deal as kinking in super cinny's/black pastels or caramels.

You could always do Mojo to butter. Skip the bug eyes and sill get a bel.
-
we do have a male mojo so thats an option...

No they are not lethal
I don't see why people think bug eyes are such a big deal personally, but to each their own.

I think the bug eyes are a big deal in the sense that you have a smaller market for them since there aren't a lot of folks looking to buy an animal with something wrong with it's eyes. Would make a good pet but not something I'd want as breeding stock, so yeah, there are those points.
I don't think it's particular frequent though? I very rarely hear people talking about producing bug eyed Super Butters/Lessers and lord knows a lot of folks are breeding them. I wonder if there are any seasoned breeders who could give a rough estimate on the probability of creating bug eyed BELs.

Our super is blind, as is his sister, they have eye issues.
Luckily it doesn't pass down to the offspring.
