I don't know, your attitude definitely fits some of the guys I know at college who are complete jerks.
But they're also alcoholics, like 90% of college population nowadays. Which no matter how you put it, makes them unhealthy no matter how much they work out or eat properly. Not saying you're part of that majority, just rambling.
Anyway, your maturity level is lower than what I'd expect from a college student. You get fired up quite easily and are very pessimistic and negative in unnecessary situations.

If you asked me to run for my life, I wouldn't make it more then 2 blocks.
Now on the other hand, I could bike forever.

Re: Parents and reptiles!
Do it up dude! I think you should 100% get this snake! Just chill out for now and stick with one lol. I can remember when I was 8 catching garter snakes in my backyard. Sure I got crap all over me and was tagged over a hundred times but it was awesome! By the time I was ten I had an albino Burm, 2 bps, several tarantulas and a hermit crab. My dad helped me out a lot but it was the most fun ever!
After the divorce all I had was my snakeys and my dad. Then we had to move to a smaller place and I had to give the burm to an educational show (at 14 feet) and was very very upset... But I still had my balls :).
And he can have a job. When I was his ag I had 2 paper routes and worked on afarm. Still bought my first car and had the healthiest snakes around. Bring the parents with you next time you hit up the pet store and show em the balls.
I'm sure once they see how amazing they are they will let yeah get one.

Re: Parents and reptiles!
ok so after the 20 mins of reading the thread lol..... Ive only come up with one thing that no body thought about.. College was mentioned but not really in the terms i was thinking of. Your 15 and by all means from your description i think your more than capable of keeping a BP. The only concern i would bring up is dorm living, for my first year of college i lived in a dorm so basically that whole first year was research and wanting a bp really bad. The second year was living in an apartment that didnt allow pets (granted there are ways around that with bps and racks, which i hate to say i took advantage of) Now i live in a house where i can keep my racks and everything i need. So timing wise i researched for a year. And have owned for 2 years and im still just barely trying to breed. Anyway back to the main point of my post. Whos going to take care of your 2-3 bps and asf's if you go off to like a 4 year university and have to live in the dorms. You wont be able to take your rack system and asf's to college with you unless your living at home and going to college. But hey if you have that part figured out i say go for it you have to start somewhere.
sorry for the long post

I happen to be a full-time student and happen to work a full-time night job, manage bills, etc. You don't NEED a car to survive in this world. I don't NEED a car. I WALK to work. I WALK to class. Hell, I used to WALK over a mile at 4am to get to work. People rely way too much on cars. So what, he's not saving up for a car. Not everyone needs a car. Hell, I'm spending the next year in Japan, I sure won't have a car there. It costs over $3,000 just to take your driving test.
You can chill and stop bringing this kid down. He seems as though he's prepared himself with research and saved up. Sure, he seems a little ambitious, but good for him. He'll realize in time that things may not work exactly as planned, but that's life. Owning a pet, taking care of another creature, is a great task. It if very maturing and I believe every teenager should be put in the care of another life because of the lessons it teaches them. It takes a lot of heart and responsibility to care for another life. If I had presented my parents with the information he has gathered when I was 15, I probably would have gotten a snake/dog/whatever critter I asked for.
The only thing that I feel he should do is prepare himself for future situations. He's says he's moving, he needs to realize that moving is extraordinarily stressful, not only on you and your family, but on your pets as well. When it comes to college, he also needs to be prepared to find some way to care for the snake if he were to go to a college and be stuck in a dorm. If that means arranging for a way to get home every few days to handle/feed/take care of his snake, then he needs to prepared for that and plan EVERYTHING out. He seems like a very responsible person, and I really think you need to chill out and give him some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism rather than bringing him down.

Re: Parents and reptiles!
Honestly I did not read all the posts on here....but of course I have to add my 1 and 1/2 cents.
If you do your homework and you are really committed to taking care of a ball python AND your parents are on board ...I say go for it. However your parents need to agree to help out should something happen and the snake needs to go to the vet. If your parents are scared...try to find someone that has a bp and let your parents interact with him. I think they will be surprised as to how docile they are.
My son is 9 and he has a BP.....8 months later...we have 5. As a family we all totally fell in love. Now my son does take care of his snake...however of course I have to help out. We make it a family thing. But again.....he is only 9.
I believe some kids are into sports....some are into bad things....and for some...they are into reptiles or other animals. This may be a way to keep kids out of trouble. For me....I am happy that my son is into animals and reptiles as opposed to mixing with the wrong crowd. This later on will hopefully keep his interest in something other than doing naughty things.
As far as breeding.....I personally would say...if you get a baby...then you have a couple of years prior to doing that. Just make sure that if you do...you have the funds to deal with all the things that go wrong.
If you ever want me to have a conversation with your parents in regards to what you have to do...please feel free to pm me. I talk to allot of parents around my area in regards to getting reptiles and what they will need and what it will take. I am a huge advocate of making sure you are ready and have all that you need and that you know what you are getting into.

Don't just right into breeding. Especially after (possibly) less than a year of owning them. Knowing a lot about them and caring for them daily are very different.
Also keep in mind that any snakes you get will need to be of proper breeding weight. This will not happen in a year if you get a hatchling ball python. A female takes at LEAST two years to be up to breeding weight and some even aren't ready for breeding after two years.
There are many things to consider when breeding. First you need two healthy adult animals. You need an incubator and housing for all of the hatchlings. You need to have a plan for the babies. If you can't sell them, you need to be prepared to care for them for their entire lives.
It is a big responsibility and should not be taken lightly.
Don't rush into things, ball pythons will be here for a while :P
i agree
