Stacey, go thaw a rat and see if you can get it to come out. Most big constrictors are always hungery from what I've read.

LOL - that is what I thought! I'm like... looking around to see what I could keep it in until I could get it a permanent home... :P

I thought I read that - they arne't like my python, huh? Should I get like... a box or something and put a rat in there or just out in the open?

I would try the box thing first...just put it in a box laying on it's side, and clear out far enough to give the snake some room.

Edit: Heading out to do some shopping....keep us posted and let us know how it turns out.

My caution would be... are you willing to move a BCI in feed mode if that is what it turns out to be... or a blood python.

That's a good point, but if the box is managable, you should be able to move the snake.

Do you have a king size pillow case handy?

So... no rat. The only snake I've ever handled is my ball python. I don't know anyone else around here that knows snakes and the maintenance guys will only bring the snake out dead (that was their plan before they got me) so bare with me!

    I do...

What if I put like a plastic storage box and then can put the top on it? Would that work?

You probably can move it... but a really really big snake... since you haven`t seen it and do not know what species it is... may be hard to even manoevoeuroeir (HOW DO I SPELL THAT WORD ALREADY!!!).

Just be really cautious. You do not know the snake, the species, the temperment, the feeding response... you could end up getting the snake into feed mode, having it NOT come out, and then the situation is even more complicated. OR you have a snake (strong when they hunt) grab a rat and then dart back into the couch.

Sorry. The devil loves it when I advocate for him.

There is no way to get it out of the couch without having to do this?

EDIT: I think you should just build an enclosure around the couch and use it as cage furniture. There problem solved. You can thank me by not posting again and letting me take the win!

They called animal control - who came and tried to pull it out with a hook - but since it was wrapped up in the couch they were hurting it. It struck at one of them and they decided it was a dangerous wild animal and that it wasn't safe to take it out alive.

I'm still not sure. It looked like an RTB - but I don't know how many look like that - that is just the one I'm familar with.

I was arguing about them killing it so they made me leave before they had it all the way out.

I wish I could have gut the couch - the lady is the one that called animal control and said that the snake was going to try to kill her and she wanted it out.

    Poor snake.

EDIT: I tried to tell them it wasn't wild - I live in western NY where it is like 10 degrees out - we don't have snakes in the wild that big that live outside.

    Thanks.

I got really excited - especially when I thought it might be a boa because I've been reading a lot about them with the hopes of getting one in a couple months (which the only reason I knew vaguely what an RTB looks like).

I wonder who's snake it is, we had most of the buliding lookin in at what was going on - I really hope it wasn't one of theirs and they just wouldn't admit it.

I don't know where you live but it must have been from the complex...

I would think that if it came from across the street or something like that some one would have seen it.

I live in an apartment complex that is like... two big half with a courtyard in the middle - and farm land around it. Had to come from one of the sides of the half circle... we have a clause in our lease though that we have to report all animals we bring into the apartments - if we are caught with animals we didn't report the will increase our rent by 50% (which is a pretty hefty increase - I think that's worse than being kicked out) and they said no one else listed a snake as one of their animals. So I'm wondering if they never reported it and didn't want an increase in rent so they wouldn't speak up. I hope not.

    That is awful.

I was going to say the least they could have done is phoned animal control.

When the police are the ones doing the shooting then it does not leave many options does it?
