These diets such as 17 day diet, weight watchers and such are not sustainable. Eating properly is. Crash diets do nothing except starve your body of what it needs.

WW isn't a diet it's a life style change. It teaches you to control your portions by paying attention to how much you put into your body. The points are a guide line to get you used to controlling your portion amount. It also teaches you to eat healthier, say you want a nice juicy hamburger but a full on 1/4 pound hamburger is around 12 points (don't quote me on this) but last night i made Turkey burgers with spinach and feta cheese (and greek seasoning) on a wheat bun and it was only 8 points. I also had some yummy roasted sweet potatoes and steamed veggies which only added 3 extra points and it didn't even add up to the 12 points if I had gave in and ate a greasy hamburger!

And by the way, my Great Grandmother does WW, she weighed 300lbs when she started She now weighs 165 and walks every morning, she's healthier than she has ever been and she's 88 years old. Never to late to get healthy.

You can not say because someone went from 300# to 165# and walks that she is any healthier. In fact if she didnt do any weight training she lost lean tissue and now is weaker than when she started. Based on this logic, anorexic people are extremely healthy and we all know for a fact that isnt true.

I was going to write an article on why WW doesnt work but this article sums everything up. Minus one factor that I was going to add. (Yes a simple google search will bring this article up for you)

    http://www.threecoaching.com/2010/12...ons-it-doesnt/

One additional thing I was going to add is the fact that humans hate keeping up with numbers. Eventually we grow bored and tired and fall off track.

    Here is another good article.

    Hey Guys,

Sorry I haven't been on for the last couple of days. I have had a lot on my plate this week. I am really happy to see more people including themselves in this goal and am really happy to have all of your participation!

I will do my best to respond as much as I can to everyone's posts. I promised you all updates this weekend and I plan to live up to that promise. The pictures are going to have to wait until tomorrow.. sorry. I am at work now and I was having some issues moving the photos to my computer. As for weight loss this is where I am standing.

    Start: 265lbs
    Current: 259lbs.

I am trying to weigh myself before my workouts, even though I generally have food in my stomach but as I mentioned earlier in the week, if I weigh myself after workouts I can be 10 lbs lighter so I want to keep my "weigh-ins" as accurate as possible.

So i lost 6 lbs in 2 weeks and I am pretty content with that. I am trying very hard to hang onto what muscle I have so I don't want to lose the weight too quickly or I am going to have to work twice as hard to reach my long term goals.

On a side note I just ate 4 filets of plain sole.. at work.. so I am kinda smelly and not about to by very popular... luckily I work nights and the only one I have to worry about is my partner and I am about to join him in the office so if he murders me, make sure $100 from my life insurance makes it to you guys, LOL.

    Cheers!

    Chris.

I don't have too much more to lose, But I'd like to get down into the 20's. I've never been skinny as an adult, so I think it'd be fun to see, even though I know I couldn't maintain it. I'd like to be at and maintain 135 tho. So that'll be my personal goal. :) My hip to waist ratio is still in the dangerous area, and I still have about 6 inches of extra fat around my waist.
Depression and anxiety really mess with my weight. I comfort eat, grr!

Awesome! Thanks for participating. Depression, mood swings and anxiety are definitely huge obstacles to over come when it comes to weight and health. Depression and Anxiety runs in my family so I know how difficult it can be to stay motivated. I really wish you the best of luck in attaining your goals!

    Cheers.

As for the story with the trainer. Did he say how long he did it for each time? I'd love to give it a try.
Time to use that gym membership I've been paying $10 a month for. lol (Been there 3 times...in 2010...ha)

That's stupid cheap for a gym membership. Regular gym membership at my club is $92.00 / month. I have the corporate rate so I am only paying $45.. I wish it only cost me $10! LOL

He said you could do it for an hour if you wanted to, but he recommended 20-30 minutes. I only do 30 minutes personally.

    I responded to your PM.

    Thanks again!

Anyway, I am just over 120lbs, but I have a muffin top that needs to go, along with jiggly thighs and a small pudge of a belly. My goal is to wear a bikini comfortably on the beach for vacation this summer. So while I am not looking to lose weight, I definitely want to tone up! I will be here cheering everyone on, adding my progress and donating $20 as well :)

    Hey Heather!

LOL I still laugh about it when I jump on the treadmill! LOL

Thanks so much for your input as well! I agree with you, 20lbs sounds like too much for you but I do wish you the best of luck in achieving your goals. I too want to wear a bikini on the beach this summer :)

Maybe I will take pictures and scar the entire forum for life!

    Cheers!

I love cooking but I've always been bad about frying foods and eating generally unhealthy foods so I've started cooking differently, even buying the WW cookbooks (and DL'ing free ones from amazon to my kindle app). I've found some from great tasting recipes but also some that I don't like at all (flour-less chocolate cookies yuk!). I think one of my main problems is simply not exercising. I recently got a Wii/Wii fit system and it's still sitting in the box  I've still got to set up the area to lay it out (ie: the computer room) which is a mess.

I Vow to start cleaning up my work out area. I also vow to start working out once the area is set up because I need to get healthy. I'm 5'3" and weigh 219 lbs (as of yesterday) and I also have HBP, insomnia, and pms. I'll post my after pictures :) I plan to lose the 20lbs and more. My main goal is to lose at least 50lbs and to just be healthy.

Good Luck everyone! I wish you well on getting HEALTHY!

Thanks so much for including yourself!!

Weight Watchers can work wonders for people! My mother has been on and off of it for years and every time she devoted herself to it she lost 40 lbs. She didn't excise above walking (My mother is blind and doesn't really have the access to the same outlets most people do). It really is just about making some lifestyle changes, the greasy foods, exercise, excuses.. LOL I am glad to see you are putting forward an effort and I know it will serve you well!

Looking forward to hearing about your progress!

    Thanks again :)

    Height: 5'7"
    Start weight: 175
Goal weight by end: 135 (40lbs overall by end of August)

Please tell me if I'm crazy for making a 40lb goal in that time or if it seems realistic. Thanks!

40 lbs by September is an awesome goal. I have never heard of the 17day diet. (Looks like I will be doing some research later :) ) I never learned how to skate or roller blade. I tried to learn 2 summers ago and gave up after a couple of days. I don't think it was ever meant to be LOL.

Thanks so much for being a part of this!
