I'm going to go against the flow of the current here and say I'm rather appalled and embarrassed by all the forum "know it alls". For anyone to recommend that someone put down their pet without knowing exactly what the issue is is ignorance of the highest level. Snakes are resilient animals, and a broken jaw in a snake(if that's the issue) can be healed. If the owner has the time, resources, and will to pursue that route, to save their pet, then it's on them, and I for one support them. If the snake has to wait a couple days to make a final decision, the owner is completely in their right to wait. The part in bold might actually be the most ridiculous statement of the entire thread. My dog had to have an ACL repaired a couple years ago...and she's just a plain Jane, average shelter mutt that cost me a total of $75. I could have easily said "Eff it, it's just a $75 dog that can easily be replaced rather than put out the vet expenses"...point being, some peoples' snakes are there dogs or cats. I don't necessarily share that sentiment for my snakes, but I get it. And yes, my dog did have to wait a couple days before I could get her pain relief, and even several more days till the surgery could be done...so she did absorb her share of suffering(cruel me :rolleyes:). I can only hope everyone else isn't so "kind and understanding" in your times of need...

Thanks for lumping all the "know it alls" together. I suggested she do something before Wednesday, not kill it. Seeing as how we really don't know the snakes real condition...

RobNJ. I agree that there are circumstances where yes you will spend more than the worth of the animal because of sentimental reasons. I've spent over 2000 on a cat that I got for free as a kitten. And yes I can agree that since I have never seen this snake, that my OPINION of what to do may not be the right one. The OP asked for help. Help comes in all shapes and sizes. From what I've heard and read in this post, the snake needs some kind of assistance soon. My OPINION is that it should be put down or dealt with immediately. And that's all it is, my opinion.

Going to the vet Wednesday was soon, now going tomorrow is sooner...sucks it can't be earlier, but it is what it is. To blindly suggest that someone put their pet down without even any basis of knowledge is foolishness, in my opinion.

Use neosporin to put on the wound until you can get to a vet. Quarentine him/her and do not bother her exept to put some neosporin on the wound. How big is the hole on the back of the neck?

This is my opinion, and I'm sure someone's gonna have something to say about it, but I agree with interloc. It is your responsibility as a pet owner to make sure your pet is comfortable, safe, and cared for at all times. Whether that means getting immediate help or putting the animal down, no one has the right to let a living thing suffer for any reason. I certainly wouldn't want to be lying around suffering while my family is trying to decide what to do with me because there aren't any doctors around.

Poor snake :( Hope he can pull through... they can be tough.. the snake is moving more correct? The drive to survive is strong obviously. Pain and suffering sucks yes but I've seen people with cancer fight for their lives even if the outcome is poor. I know its not exactly snake related. these snakes probably really want to live, grow, reproduce only natural probably going to try doing with whatever willpower left to carry on
