Sadly if im late for work id be dismissed strait away, because if im late peoples lives are endangered. Thats the downside to being a lifegaurd. A baby did happen to fall into the pool so im glad i did not linger! Its not like I can just call in and get someone to cover my shift because I work alone. The only way id miss work is if the package did not arrive and nothing/no one notified me why, then id pull some awfully tight strings.

Re: Missed th fedex package!
I live in AZ so I have to be really careful about this stuff.. I have anyone shipping me live reptiles to have the packages held at the FedEx office and I pick them up as soon as the office opens up (8-9 am and its 3 miles down the road from my house). I have never had a problem that way, I did have one breeder that was not willing to have my package held at the office but it was during the winter so I decided it would be fine.. I waited in my living room by the front door all morning and FedEx NEVER knocked, they just left the package sitting out side my front door and when I checked the tracking information it said they had it sitting out there for over an hour.

Re: Missed th fedex package!
I also live in AZ and its really hard during the summer to get snakes shipped becuase, they do just leave them at the front of your door, but its usually around 100 by 10.30 when they are delivered, so i just wait at the door step for my packages, im glad that you finnally got your snake and thats its ok.

Re: Missed th fedex package!
Very glad you got the snake safe and sound...and feisty. :)
I agree that signatures protect all sides... but I also agree that FedEx and UPS just don't give a rat's behind. I would think that anyone having a live animal delivered would be hovering by the window and door all morning, if not sitting out on the porch waiting. :) I know I was both times I had a snake shipped. I was wired for the smallest sound, since I lived on the third floor at the time.
Both snakes arrived fine, around 11:30, and the delivery people did knock but very quietly. Also, I noted that both times despite the stamps of 'live harmless reptile' the carriers had no idea they were holding snakes.
So next time you ship a snake, make sure to really stamp that box. The best place to put such stamps, including the 'Do Not leave in Sun' one, is right on top near the address label since that label is the ONLY thing those people look at.
All I know, is that if I have a live snake coming over I will skip class and hang out on my porch with my MP3 player and embroidery until that truck pulls up. :)

I've only had to ship a couple of times in the past, but it's got me wondering what the best way is for the animals and to cover my own ass.
Jake, you have a very good point. I have fought with myself over this specific topic for quite awhile, as I can see the downfalls of each side of the matter. I would rather the box be delivered, instead of potentially riding in a very hot truck all day long (especially right now, being summer, when I am sending some boxes that are near to the upper limit of temps as set by me). With that said, I ask all of my customers to please call me when they receive their snake, and let me know how it is. If I see on FedEx that the package has been delivered, and I haven't heard from them within 2 hours, I will call, and find out what is going on. That way, they get a "backup alert" that there snake has been delivered (potentially to ther doorstep).
The biggest pet peeve that I have is when a customer does not let you know that they got the snake. It is just as important for me to know that you got your snake as it is for you to know. I really care about my animals, and get nervous every time on of them is in transit. So, please call your shipper and let them know everything is good when you get a box, as I am sure that everyone else is just as "wrecked" as me until they know it arrived safe.

I'm glad to hear that he is just fine. This is a prime example of why it is so important to package the animals as securely as possible, and always think about the worst case scenario and plan for it.
I love the name.

Re: Missed th fedex package!
This is directed at no one in particular but I can't believe how many people don't use common sense when it comes to receiving their packages. Sure unforeseeable thing happen but if you have an animal being delivered don't expect Fedex to make sure that package gets safely into your hands take the responsibility to see that it's done. I've had very few undelivered packages but the ones that do go astray the customer is almost always part of the blame - if you've had problems with Fedex delivering to your house in the past, your door bell doesn't work, you work the night shift and sleep in late, the delivery guys are afraid of your pitbull, etc. etc. -- then either leave a note on the door for the guy to leave the package next to the door if you don't answer or let me know and I'll have them hold it for you at the nearest center. It's basically become part of my shipping procedure to tell people this when I send them their tracking information - I shouldn't have to but I haven't had a missed package since. :D
Anyway rant over -- I am glad little Fedex made it safe and sound! Post some picts!
