Bottom line a heat source should ALWAYS be controlled with a RELIABLE thermostat to maintain proper temps and avoid over-heating.
I have Ultratherm Viv Mat at home. I have made a lot of test before using it and I can confirm: maximum temperature I get is 36°C/96°F. Not a degree more!
My aim is to say why using mat that is able to heat that much! Even if thermostat jams and mat is permanently on I still get just temperature of my body! Nothing that can kill BP... Or from other point of view... why manufacturer is making that hot mats for reptiles!?
just note: because I want 30°C/86°F on substrate I have been using thermostat... so not the panic please.

I own 10 of them and I can assure you that if not controlled the temp can get much higher.
If the ambient room temp is spiking the temps of your Ultratherm will get higher very quick...........GUARENTEE ;)
And no none of my ultratherm are defective the catch is that they basically fo not get temps higher then so many degrees if the ambient temps of the room are low and stable, if the room start heating up you're in for trouble.
Thermostat also prevent over-heating due to mal function which that can happen with any heating device.

I am so very sorry for your loss. :tears:
Re: normal bp,, spider bp dead!!!!:(
You could make the holes 3/8" and see if that helps. I find that the best way to reduce humidity in a tub is to put holes only in the two ends (not the sides) and put more holes in the warm end than the cool end. Also put cool end holes lower on the tub and warm end holes higher on the tub. This will pull air in the cool end and carry humidity out the warm end.

I am terribly sorry for your loss. This thread made me cry a little. Thinks will look up again.
