    Sorry for your loss.

I highly suggest using flexwatt with a digital thermostat. I have used Johnson Controls and Herpstats, and am happy with both.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I recently had a heater issue with a room heater which heated the room to 120F killing my gravid pastel ball, and my radiated ratsnake.

I'm sorry. That's a terrible loss for you. Can you please tell us what type of thermostat that this was for the the benefit of others who may be using or considering the same thermostat?

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. That really sucks. Pet store UTH's regularly short out. I came home once to find that one had nearly caught fire and could have burned my house down (snake survived). Flexwatt and a quality thermostat are the only way to go with BP's in my opinion.

UTH and or flewxatt combined with a RELIABLE thermostat are pretty safe. In my experience if you use anything like a rheostat, or a cheap dial thermostat such as zoomed or Zilla you are more likely to experience serious problems. (you get what you pay for basically)

I have seen those fail and apparently instead of cutting the power they simply fail to control the temps letting the temps spike, this is why I never recommend anything else than ranco and Johnson on the low end and herpstat and helix on the high end.

Over-heating can also be due to the placement of the probe, if place in the enclosure and cool down by water when a dish is tipped over the temps will rise, if the probe is not securely attached on the heat source, over-heating can also happen which is why the probe should be checked on a regular basis.

Wrong, there is no UTH not getting over a certain temps, I have several that do say that however after a series of tests in various conditions they will heat up to 120+.
Bottom line a heat source should ALWAYS be controlled with a RELIABLE thermostat to maintain proper temps and avoid over-heating.
