Re: Have you ever eaten snake?
A couple of Laotian ladies (refugees from political persecution) cooked up a reticulated python in traditional Laotian dishes once for the local herp club. We all found it quite tasty.
By the way, chickens and ducks are quite happy to eat meat such as insects and earthworms. I've seen chickens go after live mice, and once I rescued a smooth green snake that was being pecked by chickens. A buddy's duck killed and swallowed a sparrow, and one of my father's muscovy ducks routinely chased the cat away from its mouse meal and ate it. Strict vegetarians they are not.

Lol didn't want to get into exact details as I didn't want to take away from the topic at hand, but in regards to Birds, its any bird that uses its Talons to kill are not allowed. So yes technically if a pigeon eats a worm, it would still be allowed. Chickens are omnivores without a doubt, they eat worms, bugs... but do not have Talons to kill like an Eagle.
I can go into even more detail but I just was asking about how you guys ate Snakes and Crocs, at what temp or rarity it was done too.
Re: Have you ever eaten snake?
I have not and just could not. But don’t judge any who do!

it's a theory. separately, some folks theorized we would be eating bugs like crickets and mealworms b/c they're high in protein (?) yet easier to raise and produce than cattle.

I don't remember the names of the dishes. But those ladies could cook for me anytime.
Yes, it was a donation. One of the herp club members could not keep the retic and could not find anyone to adopt it.

I think that's a great idea. Also, think about how easy it would be to gut load them with good stuff like omegas and greens, just like we do for animals. I would eat it!
Re: Have you ever eaten snake?
Growing up, our neighbors use to go to the Okeene Rattlesnake Hunt in Oklahoma. One year we had a fish fry and our neighbors brought rattlesnake. I remember it being kind of orange when it was cooked. To me, it had no taste and I had to do more nibbling than eating. Not a lot there to take a big bite. I gave up and asked mom to pass me the plate of Yellow Cat.
Re: Have you ever eaten snake?
I would have tried it in the past but never did and I don't think I can handle it at this point. I haven't been comfortable with being a non-vegetarian for a long time though and am dropping some of the smarter species from my diet. I love octopus and squid but have mostly given them up at this point because they're really far too intelligent. Pork is also in question and I certainly skip it out of pure guilt a lot of the time at the grocery. I also try to eat less meat in general because it's more environmentally friendly. I think I could get used to bugs if that became a thing, but some of the leggy ones would be a bit of a rough transition.
