    3) it makes people who are already fearful of snakes, for whatever reason, hate them even more

on threads like "can i bring my snake to the park?" or "i brought my snake to the lake with me and somebody ran away screaming! teeheehee wussies!"

    i see comments such as:

    1) "THIS IS HOW REPTILE PEOPLE GET A BAD NAME!!!"
    2) "NO WONDER PEOPLE ARE AFRAID OF SNAKES"
    3) "it's not cool to bring your reptile outside, as it stresses them out"

yet when Justin Beiber does it, at a freaking AWARDS SHOW which, if i'm not mistaken, is an extremely crowded place, with musical performances and such. you don't think that stressed a snake out?

i'm SO SICK of the way celebrities are excused for things that normal people wouldn't be excused for.

i'm going to make a thread with the title "omg i brought my pet snake with me to the grocery store!" and the contents of the thread are going to say "someone asked me what kind of snake it was, and i said a burmese python. they asked how big it was going to get and i told them; just 4 feet!" and see what kind of responses i get...

correct me if i'm wrong but i don't believe your allowed to keep Burms in B.C anymore. so you probably shouldn't take yours shopping. LOL
your right though for some reason instead of expecting more out of public figures, it seems we expect less.:(

Glad you're not deciding my fate... :O

I've done things that put this little publicity stunt to shame...

i don't have a burm. that was all just hypothetical to demonstrate the fact that people give celebrities way more leeway. if Justin Bieber came on bp.net and posted that thread it would be okay, but if lil old me posted that thread the reptile community would jump down my throat, is all i'm saying.

wow 4 pages and still counting. this is the hottest celeb/animal award show scandal since M.J took Bubbles to an award show as his date. LOL. I bet if we can get Big Guns to chime in hear we'll break 30 pages easy.:D

When I say no one has any reasons to be negative, I'm not directing my comments towards the people giving valid arguments about why it isn't healthy to take your boa to the VMAs. I'm directing it to the people that they there is a need to be harsh about it and are mindlessly insulting justin for no reason at all.

I just think everyone making assumptions about HIM is no better than him bringing it to the VMAs. So maybe he didn't know it would stress out his snake. He's only a teenager. I think everyone that hates him purely hates him for no reason whatsoever and I think its sad. It's not like he has done drugs, had a scandal, taken bad care of his girlfriend or family, etc. Saying things like burn in hell and calling him a she, for why? He's just a boy, going through puberty. You sounded like that too.

Also, you don't know how long the snake was out, how much time it was affected by the bright lights, etc. He could have just brought it out on stage and walking along the red carpet, and the lights may have stressed out the little boa, but at the same time, I think a lot of people do things that stress out their snakes at one point or another i.e. taking pictures with flash and what not. I know we all try to be perfect snake owners but you can't just sit here and bash someone because they did something uneducated with a snake. I'm sure a lot of us were at that point once.

And to insult someone and assume things about him and how he takes care of his boa just because he wanted to show it off doesn't make it right. I think it's cool if he is indeed getting into the hobby, and the way his girlfriend reacted wasn't like someone would have expected a girl to react (run away screaming). I think that actually might say things to children about how scary they actually are not.

I don't really have much else to say, I just am smh at the people here that are resorting to insulting a teenager for having a snake. I think it's pathetic. You don't have to like the boy, but there's no reason to be harsh. That being said, the people being respectful and presenting valid points is a different story. But insulting him makes you look no better; in fact it makes you look much worse in my eyes.

I think expos are pretty stressful to animals as well, especially the really big busy ones. Doesn't make him taking it to the show right, but we do things to our animals as well that stress them. I imagine we won't hear much about the snake after this, he had his fun, and now it's a pet. We'll see if he did enough research on the animal. He might just take care of it like normal now, or he might suck at it. Hopefully with the money he has he can afford to spend some on the snake to keep it healthy.
