Codom Morph Needs A Name

Well you were right, it does exist. I however know nothing of it other than this snake which is a combo. It is a very cool snake and definately a distinguishable morph in my eyes, which makes copper for this snake an unsuitable name. Both are great morphs though, which I'm sure we can all agree on! ~Caylan.S.~

I'd look into doing a few more breedings to make sure those supers really are super. It's not unheard of to miss the 1-in-4 odds of producing a super in a 6-7 egg clutch. Those "supers" might just be nice black pastels. I would test breed them a little more, and see what they do when put to a black pastel.

I agree that it is VERY POSSIBLE that the animal on the right is not the super -- it is not consistent with the super of similar hyper-melanistic morphs. Many morphs can be HIGHLY variable -- even with in the same clutch.

I do like the looks of it!! :gj: If it were me, I would do a little more breeding -- at least a combo. I certainly know how exciting it is to work with something new. ;)

I have no less than 5 animals that I have proven dominant and/or have produced combos from that have not been formally named, have not been made public, and have not been offered for sale -- because I am not sure what they are and am waiting to breed for the super. As difficult as it is, I really do believe it is best to be conservative and measured when proving new morphs.

There have been three supers produced so far so I'm not sure why you'd say the one shown in the photos isn't a super? We also produced a couple crosses but they weren't anything jaw dropping. We do have plans to breed them into other morphs but I am going to be selling a couple and wanted a name for them.

David, I did not mean to offend. :D Just sincerely trying to give you another perspective on managing a project.

I am of the camp of conservatism when naming and MARKETING new stuff -- particularly when it is SUBTLE/SIMILAR to other existing morphs. The fact that you have produced a subtle Supers and "less than jaw-dropping" combos are all the MORE REASON to do some more breeding with the gene. It really is the best way to introduce a morph and get its' "full/true value" of an animal -- just an opinion -- does not make it gospel. Although, there are no doubt any number of folks working CH and WC genes that would surely agree with my perspective. Do wish you only good things. :gj:

I completely agree with you that things should be proven out before being named and offered for sale. As I said before, there have been 3 supers produced and I think 15 or so of the morph animals. In addition to those animals it has been crossed into Pinstripes and Spiders but, again, they didn't make anything amazing. A lot of work has been done but they haven't been crossed into the 'main' combo morphs: Pastels, Yellowbellies, or Mojave/Lesser/Butters. There's obviously still plenty of breeding to do but it won't be done by me.

Without going into too much detail I'm not going to be working with balls for the foreseeable future after this season. I talked to Chris about sending him my animals so that he could have complete control of the project but he has enough of a group to work with and said he'd be happy to see some of these snakes get out there and crossed into other morphs. If someone hits something crazy he said he'd be happy to have it happen.

So this brings us to this thread and idea of coming up with a name. I'd love to be the first to make something new and cool but it just isn't in the cards for me right now. I'm not trying to introduce this as some epic new morph or anything. I think they're pretty cool looking and I still hope that they'll make something unusual in the right combo.

I'll be listing them for sale soon so I'll find out if anyone agrees with me. :)

can we see pics of the crosses that you have produced?

How do you know they are supers and not just pretty black pastels? Have you bred the supers and produced all visual heterozygous offspring?
