I had a D100 prior to this, and similarly no complaints. My disclaimer is that I've never owned a Canon DSLR, as my pocketbook won't allow a fair comparison, haha. As others have said, go check them out! You're going to get a good camera either way. My based vote would be to go with Nikon though, as I can testify to their quality. Here are a couple completely unedited shots taken in the field--I don't have many shots online to choose from, but these are decent examples:

Dang love the shots...Especially the first...
I have to say I'm leaning towards the the Nikon D300...I was playing with both and really like the feel of the Nikon...
Am I missing anything major going Nikon vs. Canon??
Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Nikon or canon will give you great results,as will other dslrs..Tbh all dslrs are capable of producing fantastic images.A thing most dont realise is that its the lenses you use once you have the camera. You could buy a entry level dslr and whack some stonking glass on it and be amazed with the results.I would rather invest in glass than put all my money into a body and not be able to afford decent lenses for it.Saying that I used to have an expensive kit until few months back(d200 plus some expensive lenses) but had to sell sadly and recent purchased a fuji s200 exr to get by until I can replace the dslr kit.
I have to say I am blown away by the images I am getting from this camera and for a fraction of the cost of a dslr outfit.Check out my latest images for examples taken with it in pic section.
At the end of the day a 1000-2000k camera is worth Jack if you cant use it.
Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I'm used to the simple point and shoot digital cameras, but my dad just got a Nikon D5000. I've been using it a ton so that I can teach him what to do. But it's simply amazing!
I highly recommend a Nikon or Canon DSLR!
Re: What type of camera do you all use?
I thought the D300 was the 10 megapixel DSLR, but I'm now seeing that it's the 12.3 megapixel camera...I know the MP doesn't make a difference, and was hoping to cut some of the cost with a 10 MP DSLR...I now can say I like the feel of the Nikon more than the Canon after playing with 2 this evening...
Re: What type of camera do you all use?
Ooops, my bad...I was looking at the D3000 vs the D300...Big price difference...Any words of wisdom between the two??

Different ends of the spectrum mate tbh...if your new to photography then maybe the d3000 or d5000 would be a better bet.

D3000 is the replacement for the D40 which was their entry DSLR. As someone else said, go with a cheaper body and save money for good glass. The D3000 will take excellent pictures and will last you a long long time. Then you can get new lenses for macro, or low light, or whatever you want to shoot.
As for Nikon v. Canon, doesn't matter. Both make excellent products. Don't let anyone tell you one is better than the other. They're both great and its just a personal preference.
