Twilight (the movie)

Oh man. This is hard. Because, I'm such a technical critique...
So, the book... the story was great. You have to read at least the first 2 books to appreciate the conflict. It attracts the tweenie girls because of the love triangle and the "beautiful" vampires and the expensive cars and the prom. hah. But, really, as a 38-year-old, I can appreciate the inventiveness of the characters and the vampire's inner conflict between love and his desire to suck the girl's blood dry. And of course, the werewolf being the "better" logical choice for the girl, but not who she loves... sigh. But, with all that said, the writing is not too great. I mean, the thing about JK Rowling is that she has a way of describing an alternate universe without you getting lost, bored, or disinterested. Meyers describes one scene to death that it makes the book drag and you just want to skip a few paragraphs to get on with it.
The movie... man... it has a great storyline to work with plus a stellar cast and enough vampire action to attract a good audience base... but the director really sucked! Okay, so, it is a teen movie, and I guess that is what they wanted it to be... But, man, the hype that book got, they should have gotten Bryan Singer to direct it! This movie REQUIRES a director who pays a lot of attention to characterization... because that's what the story is about! It's not about vampires eating vampires... not really. It's about a vampire falling in love with a human. And the director can't quite decide whether to pay more attention to deepening the characters or giving more action and in the end, decided to do blah on both! The movie ended up really choppy and stilted. Bryan Singer's way of pulling out the characters amid all the action (Xmen, Superman Returns) is what this movie needed. But then, it's really boo-hoo to the producers who didn't want to spend enough money on it.
In any case, I saw the movie twice (once with my girlfriends, then another time with my husband) and I liked it enough because of Jacob (Taylor from Sharkboy - love that guy). I can just see the mischevousness of Jacob in his toothy grins (except, what's up with that wig?). And I've always liked Pattinson (Cedric Diggory from Goblet of Fire). Surprisingly, my husband liked it enough (never read the books and not a big fan of chick flicks). So, hey, all is not lost.

This part of your post cracked me up. I had to do a lot of skimming with the books, as that did irritate me. But I have to do the same thing with Anne Rice, so meh.
I'm looking forward to reading Meyers' 'The Host', as I've heard it's better than Twilight and aimed more towards adults. Hoping I get that one under the tree this year. :D

I read all the books and loved em til I got to Breaking Dawn and it started to get a little immature to me. I did see half the movie though and the acting was CRAP! D: I actually burst out laughing at the part 'Say it!' '...Vampire' 'Are you scared?' '.......No.'
LOL!

If the acting was better/better effects then it wouldn't be too fast. They rushed the 'romance' though. In the beggining they barely seemed 'together' when Bella's all 'I'm scared of losing you'. I was like 'Wtf? They JUST got over Edward ignoring her?'

But yeah. xD

Yeah I just finished the first book yesterday and I borrowed the second one from my brother and finished it all last night. The werewolves do come into play quite a bit more in the second one and overall I really think that's gonna be a killer movie.

Still haven't seen the movie (I'm a read it first, watch it second type of guy) but I think it could be interesting. I'm takin my girl this weekend (if she finishes the book lol). IDK I've always been a big fan of "urban fantasy" the modern day type fantasy books and these were pretty good. Kept me interested long enough lol. We'll see how the movie is :D

OK rant time.... I love vampires therefore ive seen and read most if not all books and movies and to be honest with you twilight is a bunch of fruity fairies and it makes me absolutely RAGE. I mean for god sake when he gets caught in the sun he doesnt burst into flame he [in my best gay voice] SPARKLES.

I thought it was an interesting take on vampires and why they avoid the sun.. but your post just made me SPARKLE :P with laughter.. thanx for the laugh. :D :gj:

Not bad. not the best, certainly cannot compare to say, the coverage of the Golden Compass to its books or LOTR, but it works. ( the harry potter movies lost it for me with the different directors, and the change of actors for dumbledore. Couldnt be helped, but they were killed on me because of those things, AS WELL as the changes in scenery too much....)

Gives us the other side of the traditional Vampire stuff....

The books, of course as always, are FAR better. Love them. But the movie wasnt too horrible. Im not a harsh critic. I appreciate movies for what they are, and what they are meant to do.


The casting, was superb. absolutely, simply superb. They did a very very good job choosing the actors and actresses for this one.
I think the second and third books are going to be better once they come out on the big screen, the kinks will get smoothed over. Some of the wire scenes were pretty shoddy, cinematography wise, but the story, the heart of the movie... held up pretty well in the grand scheme of things. the actors made this movie though, for sure.

Now that I've seen the movie and can give my opinion.

The whole movie, the two main characters were so incredibly awkward! I agree with Abbi- They had pretty much just gotten over the whole "Why does he hate me?" situation and straight into "I'm absolutely irrevocably in love." What? How'd that happen? There was a lot of stuff left out. And the romance was WAY rushed. They didn't show anything that you would normally associate with first love- they never even seemed happy.

The book was much better. But that's okay I guess. We'll see how the second movie goes...
