I will not have a cell phone, and hate that everyone expects me to. Every service wants to send me "text" messages or wants me to download some app. I don't even like phones in general. If you've ever seen "The Wolf of Wall Street", Rob Reiner's character acts exactly the way I do when my home phone rings.

I do have a tablet though, which is great for playing music, saving maps, and as a personal organizer. It has all the advantages of a cell phone without the major disadvantage (that somebody can call you on it).

And the "Do Not Call" registry is practically useless these days, so now they call your cell phones too! Consumer protections are getting flushed:grabbed:
I haven't see "The Wolf of Wall Street" but I can imagine, lol...probably similar to my reaction when telemarketers call me.

My policy is to ignore any calls that aren't saved to my contacts list. I save companies I've ordered from just in case something comes up or when I'm expecting a call, but other than that if it isn't important enough to leave a message for explaining why it is an unknown number, I don't care. And if a telemarketer leaves a message, I block the number.

I have seen a trend lately where telemarketers match your middle 3 digits of your phone number to trick you into thinking it is a number you know and somehow don't have in your contacts. I block these outright.

I'll keep that in mind, if & when I ever "need" a cell phone. (I've used a Trac Fone in the past, when traveling cross country...but after that, meh...)

And yes, I see the same telemarketer tricks on my landline...the scams are getting outrageous but my swearing has improved. :D

My husband is an accountant (he's a controller at a medium-sized local company) and does our taxes on the paper forms (old school lol). We didn't end up owing anything this year and did see a small increase in take home pay.

If you ended up owing, and work for a company that does the withholding for you, you should speak to your HR/controller and see if they can modify your withholding to match what it should be.

Ideally, you don't want to owe, but you also don't' want to get a refund back either.. big refunds mean that the government just got an interest-free loan of your money for several months. :P
