You should definitely look into getting one not just for the sake of finding out if your temperatures are too hot or cold also for the items inside the terrarium like the top of the hide the plants etc that stuff can get pretty warm

I will definitely try to get one, but don't forget this is my parents money they are paying me to clean the house.

You can also try rat fuzzies. I always try to switch my BP's (even the hatchlings) to rats ASAP. It can be a pain to feed an adult Ball Python mice, as it would take several mice to make up a proper meal. When you could just feed one medium rat.

Besides, you can get a live rat fuzzy if he doesn't go for frozen / thawed just yet. I would NOT leave a live mouse in that tank with the snake. They chew. Even on the snake. Most new snakes are a bit shy for feedings and might need to be "left alone" with the food. Never leave a rodent that chews food already in the tank with the snake. Unless frozen thawed or to small to do damage.

I would "black out" the sides, back and top of the cage, make it more "cozy" and not so exposed. Will help him feel safe, quicker.

Again, congrats on the new baby :)

Is white paper fine for blacking it out?

He is so adorable! I'm also a newbie. I use a cheap kitchen temp probe. I think it was about $11 at Walmart.

Get him on rats as soon as you can. Far more nutritious than mice. And you should also weigh him monthly
