This is an awesome time to be a reporter. People are freaked out by the NB incident. It makes for great ratings - that's what matters to them. And the more crap like this gets reported the more likely it will dig up controversy as they try to push new legislation in Ontario. Which in turn leads to more media opportunity. The media isn't stupid. Which in my opinion makes all of this more disgusting.

Have any of you guys read some of those comments posted by 'intelligent' people? I was so tempted to leave my .02 cents about it. But I'm pretty sure I would get destroyed by the ignorance.

Ball Pythons seized in Brantford , Ont
Any animal ever hates being transported... People fear what they don't understand.

These jackasses make it seem like the snakes are going to eat the children. While I understand the police have the right to seize the snakes, due to the fact that they are illegal in that city, writing this article is just fear mongering on the part of the writer. The fact that they try to imply that the kids were in danger, by mentioning the two brothers that were killed by the rock python, just made me want to puke.

The way the article is written , is makes it sound like they had 40 snakes in one container. These idiots really should know what they're talking about before they write this stuff. The thing that was worse than the article was the comments from the morons posting the comments below. These dimwits know absolutely nothing about the husbandry of BP's yet they write that the snakes were stressed by being in the tote containers. They are so quick to condemn the people as bad parents just because of the fact that they own harmless snakes.

The more likely scenario is that they guy and his wife were breeders on their way to/from a reptile convention , and had the unfortunate luck to stop for the night at that motel.

Let this be a warning to anyone travelling through Brantford Ont. , DON'T STOP FOR THE NIGHT IF YOU'RE TRANSPORTING BALL PYTHONS!

I just hope these people are able to get their snakes back.

Seeing that the Ontario government feels the need to review their legislation on this topic, I hope they adopt what Toronto has in place. It will at least save us ball python, and boa keepers. Some cities in Ontario have banned any constrictor over 2 feet in length.. If they decide that's the way to go than a lot of people will have no choice but to euthanize their pets.. It's very unsettled up here right now.

Toronto's model is not too bad.
Which is surprising given the Toronto track record on banning things totally unrelated to a problem to look effective (David Miller closing the gun ranges because the people shooting competitively must have been responsible for a bunch of poor drug dealers and gangbangers shooting up the streets for example).
I would like to see the availability of exception permits for larger snakes being available with very clear requirements for the keeping of these snakes. Then we could still buy and trade Burm's and Retic's with only the added step of asking to see or be e-mailed a copy of the buyers permit indicating they have been made aware of the requirements of keeping these animals.
From a hobbyist perspective honestly, I'd be more comfortable knowing that anyone getting my animals knew how to properly care for them and, was able to prevent unwanted interactions like a snake eating the neighbours pet because it escaped its' inadequate enclosure yet again.

Please write in, think clearly about what you say, remain polite but firm.
Together we can influence these decision to a more reasonable outcome than we can expect if the medias narrative is the only one available.

The replies to the article on the website are what really grinds my gears. 99% of them are speaking out of their rear end. If people would educate themselves prior to making an idiot of themselves the world would be such a better place!
