Imagine the uproar if it was a fuzzy little animal.

    Not quite.

In this case, the motel in question does have a no-pets policy.

The family had recently been evicted, possibly because of the snakes (still speculation). They were also not well taken care of, according to the article. So in other words, just some :cens0r: making things yet harder for Canadian hobbyists and really all of us by proxy.

And with the recent snake sensationalism, the media is going to snap up any story having to do with reptiles, because ratings.

I call BS on the whole story. The version that I read said that they rented the place for 1 night after being evicted or something. They were in tubs so I highly doubt that the care was even close to improper. Supposedly 40 BPs, some being housed together and almost certainly as a very temporary thing (the being housed together part). They could have easily been some new babies prior to first shed being housed together and adults being housed separately from each other which is common practice. Then there was some idiot quoted for saying that they were in obvious distress... I understand that they are illegal there (well, not the why but that it is fact). If this person was just passing through then they should have let them get where they were going instead of abducting their pets and handing them off to people with no idea what they are doing where within a month or so they will truly be in distress and off food likely with stuck sheds and RIs. Is it possible that the snakes were not being cared for properly? Yes. Is it likely that a breeder (as the story suggests) would have malnourished and abused snakes? Not by a long shot.

This kind of story pisses me off because you get 10% of the actual information and 100% of the criticism from idiots who have no idea what they are talking about. Reading the comments on news stories like this disgusts me. People that have no idea what they are talking about get to express their misinformed opinions to the masses with no fact checking. The media as a whole does this on all topics and it's terrible. In any case where reptiles are involved all that it does is to further tarnish the image of the reptile community that so many have painted in their heads.

No Legislature(or Parliment) here has anything at all to do with these rules. City Hall however does, every single one of them. So if you are moving your collection across the province, you will be breaking the law by stopping in or even driving through many of the towns and cities between you and your destination.

More irresponsible politicians would be more correct.
I live in the province where this occurred and every little hicktown has its own completely nonsensical rules.
Rules that 90% of the time the city clerks don't even know about and therefore, are unable to direct you to the moronic by-laws that you must comply with and if you are lucky start a group and lobby to have changed.

Ball Pythons seized in Brantford , Ont

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/childrens-a...162446898.html

These jackasses make it seem like the snakes are going to eat the children. While I understand the police have the right to seize the snakes, due to the fact that they are illegal in that city, writing this article is just fear mongering on the part of the writer. The fact that they try to imply that the kids were in danger, by mentioning the two brothers that were killed by the rock python, just made me want to puke.

The way the article is written , is makes it sound like they had 40 snakes in one container. These idiots really should know what they're talking about before they write this stuff. The thing that was worse than the article was the comments from the morons posting the comments below. These dimwits know absolutely nothing about the husbandry of BP's yet they write that the snakes were stressed by being in the tote containers. They are so quick to condemn the people as bad parents just because of the fact that they own harmless snakes.

The more likely scenario is that they guy and his wife were breeders on their way to/from a reptile convention , and had the unfortunate luck to stop for the night at that motel.

Let this be a warning to anyone travelling through Brantford Ont. , DON'T STOP FOR THE NIGHT IF YOU'RE TRANSPORTING BALL PYTHONS!

I just hope these people are able to get their snakes back.

I totally agree. I mean, there are ZERO deaths caused by ball pythons. It just DOESN'T happen! There was NO need to mention that there were even children there! Seriously! I really wish that reporters would actually do some RESEARCH before this stuff goes to press. Sigh. Super frustrating. Then they talked about the animals being in distress. Well, duh! They're TRAVELING. Almost any reptile in that situation would under some sort of stress. Ugh.
