    Hello,
OK, so this is not an easy judgment call.. Your facts are that the baby has some BAD wounds, he's probably in some pain. But he may just be able to make it through it. If he/she can, it will be a long road to a full recovery.
I would want to give him a chance. You need to start (soon) by cleaning off any and all debris. Looks like there are some small bits of wood shavings stuck on the flesh. I would use a sterile rinse and a syringe to clean off anything. You can go to Wlagreens or any other pharmacy type store and get sterile syringes and a wrinse. They'll give you the syringes at the pharmacy counter, and then ask for them to point out the best wash. Keeping in mind (and mention to them) that petroleum products are very bad for reptiles. I've had to use the pharmacists advice for many things.
gently wrinse all debris from him and pick off all the large pieces.
once the areas are clean you need to dry it off good, don't wipe it with anything, just blow on or fan the area until it's dry.
Keep him in a tub with paper towel. Just a single layer. If he goes under it and it sticks to the back then just remove the paper towel. You don't want anything on the open wounds.
I would use Betadine (sp) as a disinfectant. Soak it up on a q-tip and GENTLY rub it over the whole area. Iodine is too strong for a huge open wound like this, it can burn the tissue and cause more damage/pain and prolong healing.
(Explain what happened to the pharmacist and ask for their advice, explain that you're trying to save it's life and they should start brainstorming for you.)
Keep it dry and wrinse it ligtly with the sterile wash no more than once a week. Dry is key, if an anaerobic infection sets in because it's wet, then he's good as done for. And then just use the betadine about every 3 days.
This is all I can really think of right this second. The wounds should dry up and start to heal (a little) in about a week. He'll have some nasty scars, but if you can keep it clean, he should make it. Most animals are pretty resiliant. I'd say he deserves a chance. Wish I was there to help...
you can email me if you'd like and I'll offer any other advice I can. Kind of having a mental block right now... those pics are pretty bad... I really hope this helps at all. Please let me know.
I can't think of what antibiotics would be best for something like this. But I will ask around and let you know.

Take it to the vet and get it put down. I don't think it would cost much. At least call and find out.

Bowser, if you don't have the money to get extensive vet care the best option is to put it in a snake bag and put it in the freezer. That may be the worst injury I have ever seen on a BP. Sorry for the snake....ALWAYS SUPERVISE LIVE FEEDINGS!!! That prey was left in with that snake for a while!!!

just my 0,02 cents, I would have slammed my door and drove like a madman to a vet, any given vet in my area.

YOU DO NOT FREEZE REPTILES TO DEAD!! THIS WILL TAKE SEVERAL HOURS. I HAVE HEARD THIS IDEA BEFORE BUT IT IS REALLY NOT THE WAY..

But chopping the head of is also my advice - though I love snakes. If you can't do it let someone else do it. Fast! Keeping it alive is kind of selfish..

I agree that the snake is in very bad shape. I could not chop a snakes head off, so what I would do is first turn off his heat, then put him in a cool space, then in the fridge then the freezer.
I have never had to deal with such a large wound but I have brought back snakes from being very badly abused and neglected. The biggest problem you are going to have is him eating. With that large of wound if he constricts it will break open anything that has healed. There is a liquid bandage out on the market that might help after you get the wound cleaned.
What ever you decide good luck.

If you use a betadine solution to rinse the wound, make sure it is diluted with sterile water.

That is horredous, I agree that snake needs to be PTS, a euth done by a vet will probably be under $100, scrape it up or chop his head off or freeze it or something. I have never seen such a terrible injury on a snake before, I don't think his chances of survival are good even with vet care, just put him out of his misery and if you see his owner again give him a punch in the face.

I honestly would not have taken him if I were you. I would have said go find a vet to put him down, because there really is not much you can do for him if you are Broke and too scared to put him down by chopping the head off ( And distroying the brain in the same blow)

There is a point where you are rescueing something, or just putting it into another situation.

In this way the snakes body will shut down from the cold before it is frozen.

It really is better if you call a vet and ask for a discount to have it put down though. There is no harm in asking.

what she said^^^^^this is how i put mine down as well.
