Not sure where you read that but last season I had 5 first time mom's go. Of the 5 the largest clutch was 9 smallest was 5. The rest were one at 6 and two at 7. I could see a smaller snake giving less eggs like if you breed her at 2 and 1200g. But at 3 and 1500g (which is where I shoot for) they give decent sized clutches

Maybe I can help.
Here is an example, shame on me btw poor decision. I started pairing a 1200 gram 2 year old by female that was eating great. After two pairings she went off feed. I stopped pairing. 6 months or so later she laid her first clutch of 9 eggs and no slugs. They were small but 7 hatched. The other two went bad two weeks in. She looked completely deflated and unhealthy after. Thankfully she started feeding a week after the eggs were laid and is doing well. Another girl is 3000+ grams and 7+ years old. Every one of her clutches is 4 or fewer eggs with slugs. Another girl is 10 years old is only 1400 grams and always lays 5 eggs and no slugs. They have always hatched. Each snake in my collection is a little different. Most of them follow the rules to some degree but still not 1+ 1 = 2. Perhaps the op is just saying “don’t always expect the norm with these guys”.

My point was that it is not common place for first time layers to lay one or two eggs. It can happen but it can happen with a proven girl too. The statement I was rebutting is that it is common for first timers to have small clutches.
I might also add that a smaller snake like a 1200g when compared to a 1500-2000g might not give any less eggs but from my experience they do give smaller eggs.
