Re: Do you name your snakes?
I name all my pets just something I do...
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I figured since they are "Royal" pythons, I chose to name mine after great rulers or use various names that royalty are addressed by. My list for futrure males will be Pharoah, Alexander, Hannibal, Khan, Attila, and Ceasar. Any females will be Cleopatra, Catherine, and Joan of Arc. Unless I end up with a big fat female Blood python. She will either be Oprah, Kirstie, or Rosie...
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I name every single one that we keep. There is one named 23, but that's because we decided late that we were going to keep him, and we got REALLY used to calling him 23...so it stuck. lol
To amuse ourselves, most of our snakes are named after deities (like Aten and Persephone). Some are named after fictional characters. It's easier to keep track of them with names than it would be with just numbers or codes.

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I only have one snake, but If I were to have a huge room full of them, they would all have names. I like to give my pets pretentiously cute, aristocratic names: Pennyworth for my normal baby ball and Percival for my Betta fish. :3
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
Funny, I was just wondering about something similar... I was thinking about posting a poll regarding how MANY snakes you name, before you give up. :D I only have three so far, and they all have names - but I'm curious how it goes when you have like 20+.
P.S. I was going with a Biblical theme, since it started with Delilah and then Tobias. But when I got my new female, she just screamed "Mona" to me, so the theme already fell apart... LOL.

lol i got a bunch more coming so i gotta start thinking of names asap

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I don't do well with numbers. I think a name makes the snake easier to talk about. 'Did persephone eat today?' is a lot easier to ask than 'Hey, did that normal female A243B eat today?' :P
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
My Daughter named my snakes:gj:
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
Mine all get names eventually, but I don't feel rushed about it. If it takes a few weeks then it doesn't really matter, you're going to have the pet a lot longer than that!
Sometimes I have names prepicked though. I know the next two are going to be Sookie and Bill :)
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I just recently aquired my first BP, but I have had a name picked out for ever lol. Apothis= egyptian snake diety of the night which works well becuse of his nocturnal nature
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
Only have 1 ball.
Her name is Indy. Had to go the Indiana Jones route because he is afraid of snakes. Thought it would be ironic. =)
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I have several that are named.. like
Frank the Pied
Moore the Lesser
Freckles the Bee
Kara the Het Pied

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I have named all my snakes so far although once I get into the 20+ range I may have to think about abandoning it. I have a LONG way to go though.
They are:
Fluffy(Normal Male) He was my first bp.. Dont ask lol :D
Bee (Pastel Female) Named her because my goal with her is to hatch out a bumblebee
Casper(Hypo Male) Hoping to get a axanthic female for him and start on a true ghost project
Beauty(Lesser Female) Her name just came. Every time I open the tub I think about how pretty she is so I just names her Beauty.
I also have a normal girl whose name shall either be Hissy Fit or Feisty because every time I go to pick her up she hisses and wants to eat me :taz:

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I named my BP Balthazar, Because it just sounds like the name of someone you wouldn't want to mess with. I used to have some carpets that I started naming after the deadly sin they had characteristics of.( IE the lazy Jaya was Sloth, The bright yellow JxD was Pride, and the testy Jungle was wrath.) but they all passed in a house fire.

Re: Do you name your snakes?

Yeah, im gonna name my first snake, but if I ever started breeding and got alot of snakes or something then i would just call it what it is. like the female pastel. or what ever. maby if it came to where i had multiple females or males of the same morph i would make a system. shortened. or maby just number them. Female pastel 1 2 3 ECT. in the order i got them...
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
All of our snake have names, but that is only four!
Romeo and Juliet, male and female BP
Judy and Andy, corn snakes.
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I have named the first 15...then when I started getting pairs of hets...clown pied albino caramel I fell behind lol:)
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I name all my pets. If I ever get so many that I can't keep track of their names, there's always writing their name on some masking tape and putting it on their tank (or setting up a database with pictures, pedigree, color, etc). Otherwise, I'm pretty good with remembering the names of my animals.

I have a system though. spiders have names the start with W, pastels names start with D, genetic stripe hets (and eventually visuals) have names with 2 L's in them right next to each other (like the line on their back) ex. Lilly, Dillon. Het SKA all have names that start with H, albinos and hets start with A.
My crazyness goes on and on. There are a few animals that their names don't fit into any catagory but they where named before I figured out my system or they are an exception animal. Like Jacki who is named after Greg's wife since we bought the hets from him.
That's NOT crazy Kelly! I don't name my hatchlings but I do name the snakes I keep and breed . . . over 200 and counting.
I use a system that is similar to Kelly's for most of my snakes. Of course some that are not part of any system are being used; such as Cooter, Bizotch, MacGuyver, Wickerbill, etc.
Normal females - spices (Oregano, Ginger, Nutmeg, etc.)
Pastels - fruit (Papaya, Guava, Pear, etc.)
Mojaves - all start with "M" (Maddox, Mae, Marsala, etc.)
YB - gems (Sapphire, Pearl, Jade, Opal, etc.)
Butters - names/types of butter products (Canola, Parkay, Crisco, etc.)
Fires - fire words (Flame, Blaze, etc.)
Albinos - all named after my husband's family (Gooneybird, Elbert, Connie, Alice Faye, etc.)
Pieds - rhyming (midget, gidget, fidget, widget, etc.)
and on and on . . . .
Helps me keep track. We tried a numbering system but I just couldn't reach in and pick up an snake and say "hey M06-11, how ya feeling today?":weirdface

I name all my snakes..and have every intention on continuing to name all of them..even after I start my business and probably have over 100 or so snakes at a time..lol..might not remember all their names but they will have them...lol
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I can't imagine not naming them. I don't name my ASFs, though, that we got yesterday. I can't name an animal I am going to feed to a snake. But, I wouldn't be surprised if certain breeders ended up with accidental nicknames (ie, "Nippy" or "Big Spot Male" or similar).
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I named my snake Jonny T. after my cousin who passed away. He had about 9 or 10 snakes, so I thought it would be appropriate.
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I dont name them, my wife does and usually after cars: )
-

name my breeders, Any one I plan to sell. I don't name
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I had three BP's until about nine years ago. Two of them were CBB and I called them Paco and Pablo..... I also had a WC BP and it wanted to bite everything that moved so he was called...... I would probably get banned if i posted what I called that snake.
Currently I have a no named RTB....probably end up calling him Fat Boy cuz he is a hog but snakes dont come when you call them so a name is kinda useless..... like my fishies, all nameless. I also have a veiled chameleon that my daughter dubbed "Scoop" but he wont tolerate handling so he is like a tree fish to me but he is cool.

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I try to name my animals after Greek and Roman gods. Unless there is something that i think fits a certain animal.....for instance I once had a Beta Fish who was pink and I thought Frufru was a fitting name so she was Frufru.:rolleye2:

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I like to stick to Gods and goddess names but ... I have found some unique names here in there that aren't.
Vesta comes from the roman goddess of the hearth. <3

Re: Do you name your snakes?
Akira :D is name of mine Ball python

Re: Do you name your snakes?
All of my reptiles are my children, so they all get names! The bearded dragons are named after Dune characters, the GTPs are minerals, and the geckos are just kind of random.
I named my second BP Iridium because he's a very yellow lesser platinum, and Iridium is platinum's "sister metal," and it has a yellow tint to it. I then got an idea for a periodic table theme, and the rest is history! I can have over 100 BPs--all named after elements! I try to match the names/elements with the particular morph of the snake. So far, it's been pretty easy, but it'll get much harder the more snakes I get. Heee.
I currently have Irulan (my first snake, named long before the periodic table idea), Iridium (lesser), Tungsten (VPI Axanthic), Iodine (het VPI Axanthic, nicknamed "Bitey"--guess why), Xenon (woma), Beryllium (het g-stripe), and Palladium (50% het Albino). My Red Axanthic/het Red Axanthic pair will be Ferric (Ferrum, AKA Iron) and Europa (short for Europium, which is used to make the red color in TVs).
I have future morphs already planned out: Zinc & Sodium for BELs, Sulfur & Fluorine for Pastels, Argon & Krypton for Lavender Albinos, etc. It's a ton of fun finding names for them all!
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
The snakes that I have now, yes. The snakes I intend to hold onto will have names, but if I start selling snakes the ones I intend to sell will not be named.
As for my current names:
Normal: Reese (he moves really fast)
Pastel: Persephone (little head like markings on her side so I used Hade's wife)
Fire: Ginger (red headed person)
Lesser: I don't have him yet and don't know him well enough to name him
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
Shakti - Normal BP
Asche (A-shh - Old english for "Ash") - Black and white corn snake
Etoku - Bubblegum corn snake

-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I name allll my reptiles. I have fun doing it! I probably won't name babies I'm going to sell (breeding leopard geckos next season and Sand Boas in a year or two) but the keepers I'll always name. :snake:
My current ones:
My BP: Gordon Freeman (I'm a big fan of the Half-Life games and the game's engine) I either call him Gordon or Mr.Freeman most of the time. ;)
Sand Boas:
Nidhogg
Volos
Juno (though I've considered renaming her Pissy...)
Leopard Geckos:
Solis
Loki
Dagda
Freya
Odin
Vega
Tesla
Sergeant Pepper

Re: Do you name your snakes?
I answered "Of course I do!", although, truth be told a couple of them still don't have names yet, but they will once I think of something. I usually have to have the snake a little while before they will "tell" me their name.
Guess I'll include all the names too:
Ball Pythons - Harvey, Willow, Annabelle, and Puck
Corn Snakes - Phoenix and Dahlia
Nic Boas - Pandora and Rocko
Red Tail Boas - Freckles and the other doesn't have a name yet
Leopard Geckos - Pip Squeak, Emilio, Damien, Yuki, Weebl, Kayla, Jodie, Tito, Tessa, Cira, Mage, Deidra, Ada, Bindi, and one male still needs a name
Crested Gecko - Zee
Marbled Gecko - Lump
Desert Horned Lizard - Winston
Red Eared Slider - Niffy

Re: Do you name your snakes?
My one personal pet has a name, Ludwig.
In the collection I work with (don't actually own them, just take care of them all!) only a handful of the +/- 200 have names. They get names when they need to go to the hospital and the med records system requires a name or if there is something special about them. For example, "Bogart" the carpet python reminds me of the great actor because he is too cool for school and "Tiny" the Children's python didn't eat for the longest time and is quite small compared to his clutch mates. And then there is "Heart" the Angolan python with a perfect heart on his head, and "Miss Hiss" the mojave BP who is full of 'tude.
-
Re: Do you name your snakes?
I only have one BP...his name is, "Pete the Python".
-
