You may have missed the major clouding in his eyes since they like to hide when they're in blue, as you've experienced. Also, I've never found any consistency in how clouded my adult male's eyes become. All sounds fine regarding the impending shed.

Not so sure about the humidity spike, it's pretty amazing what can affect the humidity levels inside the vivarium, but leaving a dry towel on the top shouldn't do anything. That is, unless, you have a wooden vivarium with vents at the back, and it covered a vent somewhere at the back? Although you say it was folded up. Hrm..

Hmmmm indeed, it is a wooden viv with vents at the back and glass sliding doors at the front but it was litrally just on the top... strange goings on in here... Better get another one to compare too 😏😏😏

Update for anyone still bored enough to follow this, woke up this morning to find clyde looking a bit bright he had knocked some of his leaves on the floor and underneath to my surprise is his skin lol unfortunately he didn't do a whole all in one but more a three piece suit. Better than the last shed so I am somewhat pleased, now to sift through and make sure his eye and tail caps are amongst this, today is his normal day of offering food so will see tonight if he's hungry now he's freed himself, thanks for all your help guys will keep you posted on next shed :)

Meh so so lol first time I fed him he was lethal he made me jump so bad but next few times I got used to it, he's so finicky when eating takes me so long to convince him to have a meal and sometimes he just turns away and sods off :( it's defrosting in the fridge now so will have a try of a different heating method maybe tonight? Any tips?

Well there are loads of different ways but this one works for me ;).
Virtually guaranteed in my experience - if he's at all interested ...
This method WORKS if done properly ...
I wait until evening as they're nocturnal of course . I let the rodent thaw out in the reptile room so they get the smell .. Then put a couple of pieces of card over the substrate ....
Then I warm up the mouse / rat with a hairdryer and offer with tongs IMMEDIATELY whilst still warm . If refused simply repeat the heating and offering as many times as needed. .
A couple of mine will only strike feed from within their hides so I dangle the warm rodent in front of the hide's entrance - usually works but if it fails simply reheat the rodent with a hairdryer and immediately offer again whilst it's still warm , continue until it's grabbed ...
I always wait until evenings to feed as they're nocturnal of course .

Incidentally , if it shows no interest at all not even a tongue flicker maybe it's best to leave for a week or so.

He looks healthy enough and when I got my snake she was fussy with food for a few months as the change in environment can be a shock but nothing too serious just keep a log of what he ate and when to make sure it's not too long but they can go months without eating. He is a beautiful snake I hope all is well with him.

OK I will give that a go and see if he takes it tonight, hopefully he will as with temps and humidity I've now nailed it so after a fresh shed I'm sure he should be ready to eat, have offered every week but he hasn't taken anything for 4 weeks but I have only ever prepared rat in a bag in warm water so maybe a different method will get his senses tingling :) have rummaged in his shed and can't certainly say I can find / see his eye caps but his eyes are black glossy and clear so I'm thinking there off??

Thanks, hoping he will get on the mend now he came to me in such a state it was unreal, poor soul was neglected something rotten, have been doing alot of learning from him changing temps, hides, substrate, all settled now and steady where it should be he seems happy enough he moves from hot to cold sides regularly and at night he often comes out for an explore, just got to get this feeding sorted and he should be back on track!

I used to thaw mine in very warm water but I was told it was just washing away the potent rodent odour which kinda makes sense .
I now thaw naturally in the snake room hours before , sometimes put them on a spare heat mat to speed things up ....

Tonight , whilst he's in the hide , quickly dangle the warm rat in the entrance , he will hopefully grab it instantly ( if he's awake ) if not a couple more attempts with a WARM rat should at least get him interested and tongue flicking then it's just a matter of repeating the warming and dangling .

If he's out and roaming around the Viv when you offer the rat it may just simply scare him into a corner or his hide which is the end of things normally for a week or so ...

    Good luck !

And take pictures , I'm that confident :)

Ah now nothing like a bit of pressure haha , I'm really hoping he does cause this is 4 weeks now since he ate , so now husbandry is on track and settled I'd like to get a food routine as well, will help me in the future for being able to know if somethings not right , currently said rat is sitting on top of his viv defrosting in all its glory ... I usually turn his light out about 8 so will get warming about 8.30 and see how it goes .... Wish me luck and ok keep you posted !

Sometimes snakes simply won't eat , as I recall the record for snake fasting is over TWO YEARS , by a Royal / Ball python ...

He looks great after that shed.

Didn't read through the whole defrosting methods, but I just put my rats in a sandwich bag, and in a big mug 1/3 boiling water and 2/3 hot tap water. Takes about 20 minutes. I often leave it next to the vivarium, not that it helps. Then I'll put the rat on some tissue, and hairdry it next to the vivarium; keeps some water, but my adult male smells the food too.

Has he been offered/when is he being offered? :P

    No worries !!

I always do but even then I've still seen odd bits of bark go down with the rat :)

Over the years , I've actually got rather adept at plucking bits out of their mouths with tweezers , at the last moment :)
Many don't bother , pointing out that snakes eat off the ground all the time - who knows .

I always imagine them on dirty / dusty / earthy surfaces rather than loads of reptile bark ....

I've actually got it off to a fine art and usually takes around 30 minutes or so. Most are simple drop feeders where you just place the food down on a piece of card or something , a few are drop and occasionally strike ... Interestingly , the two Albino Royals are BOTH strike only feeders .

So thought I'd post a little mini update, happy Sundays lol clyde been such a happy chappy since his good shed and big rat, every night when I go to turn his light out he peeks out and ventures off to his cool side under the leaves, have seen him have a few little drinks and cleared out some urates the other day, came down this morning and he was out chilling on his new log branch I bought yesterday looking just as beautiful as always, nearly meal day again so hopefully he feeds again :) hope your all good and noodle babys happy. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...e83c1b86c3.jpg

He's looking great, and seems to be loving his new log hide. Fingers crossed you've got him on a feeding routine now, generally when they start eating, they won't stop for a while. Just don't freak out when you miss a week, sometimes my adult male just decides that he doesn't want to eat. :P

Just managed to feed my two (decided to trust the adult male and feed him without tongs), and the young female has not yet learned how to strike perfectly first time, she actually missed the rat and started darting out the vivarium frantically looking for it.

Here's a close up of Poseidon stuffing his face. xD

I see your noodle is definitely doing well, hope you're well too, and enjoying the experience. :)

Yeah I think even thought theyre generally happy hiding he still likes to get out his house every now and then he seems to enjoy chilling on that branch sometimes so il leave it for him lol yeah gonna try every Tuesday and hopefully get some routine going but I know they can randomly decide not to eat little buggars lol oh wow your brave feeding without tongs lol I'm not that confident yet hehe curious have you ever been bit by mistake? ah love his little face he's tucking in nicely! I think clyde does look good yeah much better than when he came to us, yeah we're well happy as our noodle is happy hehe love it, already been talk of getting another 😏 hope your good

Generally as long as they're not showing any signs of health issues, and they're not losing weight rapidly, missing a week or even a few months isn't unusual, pretty sure snakes will just have different periods where they don't eat, and some snakes will just eat all through the year hardly missing anything if not, not even missing a single meal. Lucky...

This is the first time that I bothered trying to feed him without tongs, I know it's not something to toyed with, and I understood the risks and was fairly confident he'd see the head of the rat that was hotter than hell (not literally - wasn't at risk of burning him), never been bit at all, and even if I was bit, my fault and not the animals.

Yep, you've done a great job with him. And I'm good, thanks!

Yeah I swear every day there must be 10+ threads on here about BP not feeding lol Although that said alot is potentially down to husbandry, yeah I think combination of the smell and heat, 9/10 times they know what they're going for lol sounds so silly but I'm curious to know wether it hurts or not, the power they have in them and I read quiet a bit thay says it don't hurt at all just more of a shock, curiosity killed the cat and all. Good good glad to hear it, how many noodle babys have you got is it just the two or more?

I don't reckon it would hurt that much, the teeth of a royal aren't made to pierce like aggressive snakes, they're facing backwards to the back of their throat, so it's easier to keep a rodent caught and help to ease it down into the throat.

Yeah, something to look forward to later on in the year when you decide whether or not you want to get another. It'll be a chance to raise a royal from a really young age. Just make sure you quarantine the newbie when the time comes.
