Six years ago when he was given that advice there were plenty of people who believed that keeping desert females a bit cooler than the norm was the key to getting them to reproduce.
The buyer obviously knew about the fertility problem associated with the gene and rolled the dice on the purchase. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.
