Re: I lost my Normal
Know anyone with a ferret? dont they try to hunt snakes like mongoose's do?
I know it sounds far fetched but I dont know what else to say that hasnt been suggested already, except maybe crush a rat skull and spread its brains all over a heat pad and place the dead rat on the pad in the same area you think she may have gotten into the wall, maybe the smell of rotting carrion and rat brains will attract her, especially with the heat enhancing the smell... Snakes eat alot of carrion in the wild, maybe this will work, my blood python loves to eat his rats after 12 hours of them sitting there...
If it was me I would be considering breaking the walls down and then dissapearing before the landlord showed up. I am so sorry yer little buddy is missing like this, good luck!

I've thought about it, not sure how to approach it yet. Maybe write a letter?

Very sorry about your snake, if it was a squirrel I could help you but the only thing I learned about catching a snake was from watching the crocodile hunter:(

Dude....you better just keep your mouth shut. There's a good chance that Fish and Game may show up at your new place and take all your stuff. You really do need to pull out all the stops to find this thing though. This is one of the reasons we are having so many problems. This really could make worldwide news in a couple weeks when the new tenants move in and find it in their tub..... and guess what.....everyone on here knows it was you. You better hope these narks don't turn yah in.:D

BG is correct. Just last week I read on here or another forum of a ball finding it's way onto a dining room table. I believe the article said it was someones who was still living in the building and was returned to them.
Good luck in your search. On one of my other forums, someone built a snake trap. Let me know if you want the link.

I don't know if this will work for your snake, depends on the size.
I couldn't find the good instructions, so use your imagination I guess...
Quote:
first, you can make a few bottle traps. Take plastic pop bottles, and cut off the piece right above the label. stick this into the bigger piece of the bottle facing twards the inside. Put a pink inside, and that should catch it. You could also try tracking the snake with flour around the outsides of walls. And you could use masking or painter's tape to make a tape trap. but DO NOT use duct or scotch tape, to sticky!

SO TRUE...A Snake on the loose will at least land ya on the local news. And you may even get blamed for all the probs in the everglades. I was on Petfinder looking for morphs (do you know you can get them sometimes for a small adoption fee of 35.00) I was reading some of the rescue stories and they were not nice. One poor little Corn snake was found in someones front yard getting beat with a stick. Another story-a BP was found roaming a neighborhood. Alot of people just assume a snake is venomous and will "shoot and ask questions later".

If the lease agreement he signed said it was ok to have reptiles in the apartment, would it still be such a big deal? It would mean that the other tenants signed the SAME agreement, knowing that reptiles are allowed in the apartment complex.
I could see where if it wasn't allowed, he could get in big trouble. But if it is, can they still do that?

The issue would be more that the snake got lose, than that he had it in the first place.

Ok, I could see that. People should be more concerned with lost dogs and cats than snakes... Arg.

Re: I lost my Normal
I lost a baby corn snake. He turned up a year and a half later, so never give in to the fact the snake is gone for good or dead. The snake is probably no further than 20-30 foot away from you.:snake:

Wow a year and a half?

Re: I lost my Normal
Ya I guess I wont be saying anything about the snake. I'm trying a bunch of different things. I'm really hoping she is in one of mine or my ex's stuff.
I have about 5 days left... I do feel so dumb about it though, I was so anal about their things, but that one time I fall a sleep... that's all it took. :(

Re: I lost my Normal
crossing fingers hoping you find her before you leave.

Re: I lost my Normal
Hey, don't lose hope, it probably didn't go far at all and is still taking its sweet time hiding. This past winter when I was on vacation and my dad accidently left both tubs open (...he thought it wouldn't matter with such chubby snakes even though I repeatedly told him to make sure he should close them tight) both of my kids escaped. Found one in about 2 weeks in the bathroom on the toilet, and then two months later the other one turned up trying to squeeze itself back into the tub (really thirsty.)
They're smarter than they look.
Sometimes the more frustrated you are, the less you're able to keep a weather eye out. So take a deep breath, and know that sooner or later, if you've done everything you could possibly do, whatever happens will happen.
Good luck!

Re: I lost my Normal
I would be taking steps to try to insure that the landlord and you were on the same page in so far as what steps to take when she does show up.
I would also make personal contact with the new tenants. Explain the situation to them, assure them that she means no harm and steps to take when she appears (immediate call to your cell phone, etc). Show them a pic too. Hopefully you aren't moving too far away.
Sorry if thus was all mentioned by somebody else in a previous post as I did not read every single one! Best of luck - she will turn up, it's just matter of when.

Dude everybody makes mistakes okay? The important thing is you learn from it. That was an easy one to make.
Don't beat yourself up bro.

Re: I lost my Normal
Just invite Samuel L Jackson over
The snake is bound to show up and make him go bananas

Re: I lost my Normal
It would be extremely irresponsible to leave & not notify the new tenants or landlord. This snake is your pet & she relies on you to take care of her. She could die in the wall, someone could find her & kill her (remember the story of the snake nailed to a telephone pole?)...anything can happen. What kind of trouble do you think you'll be in if you bring this up to them? You are no longer under a lease there, so technically there's nothing they can do to you..unless your pets have damaged the place &/or pets are prohibited in your lease. Please do the responsible thing by advising the correct parties.

I realize my post came across pretty harsh..it's just that the people suggesting you dip out on your pet are irresponsible reptile owners imho. I didn't mean to sound like a major b****. Good luck & please keep us updated!

Re: I lost my Normal
yeah im currently having a very similar problem right now... My BP got out of his tank lastnight, and its my first aswell. I have looked up and down all over this house and still cant find it... so i feel your loss right now.
-
Re: I lost my Normal
Another thing you could try is if there is anyway to enter your couch or furniture she might be in there. When i lost mine he was hiding not far from his enclosure in a bookshelf hiding in a cd case...
I know I stated the obvious but sometime it is the obvious we forget.
hope I was of any help and good luck on your search.:gj:

Re: I lost my Normal
I hear you… It really is a dilemma. On one hand, you want your snake back. And you don’t want to tell your landlord or new tenants if you don’t have to ‘cause you don’t want to expose yourself to unnecessary hassle and/or expense.
On the other hand, if you don’t tell the landlord or future tenants, and your snake does show up, no one will know she is a harmless pet snake, and there’s a good chance someone will freak out and kill her. I’m thinking that a surprise snake appearance could be more of a PR nightmare than the appearance of an advertised lost pet. Sure, expect some drama either way; but if the landlord and tenants have been told about the possibility of a pet snake showing up--and she does--it won’t be as shocking.
I don’t know what the situation is between you and your landlord, or what your lease stipulates about pets, but if things have been cordial and you’re in compliance--and you have the cash--you might want to consider offering a reward for your snake. Give them a picture of your snake (the more cuddly-looking, the better) and tell them there’s a reward for the return of your beloved pet. If your landlord knows, and your snake shows up (even in another apartment), at least you’ve got a chance that someone will call you. They might not call you out of the goodness of their hearts, but if you offer a reward, you might get a call. (In my mind, offering a reward also reinforces the beloved pet perception.) If everyone has been alerted, you offer a reward, and your girl does show, there’s a chance the situation will appear more benign and not escalate into a dramatic PR circus.
If it were me, I’d use very unscary language describing your snake, stress the “long-time, beloved pet” aspect, and make her sound as sweet, shy, gentle, and harmless as possible. Let them ask you questions and remain calm and pleasant, stressing how heartbroken you are at the loss.
Just my opinion, and ultimately you'll decide what is best for you in your situation. However, you've still got some time before you vacate the apartment, and here’s hoping your girl is a stowaway in a box or sofa in your new place.
Good luck---we're rooting for you.

Re: I lost my Normal
Hey there, I was out of town for all of last week during spring break and hadn't been to this board. Any updates?
-
Re: I lost my Normal
Well Im completely out of the place. My ex is gonna stay there for around 1 more month. But she still a no show...
Thanks

Re: I lost my Normal
So sorry to hear this. I could kind of deal with a snake disappearing for awhile, but like you say, moving out before it's found is a whole different ballgame. {{{Hugs}}}

Re: I lost my Normal
Did you try putting flour around the edges of rooms to see if any track marks show up?
GL! :(

Re: I lost my Normal
I'm going to put my money on her hiding in something that was packed up... I hope you find her soon...

Re: I lost my Normal
Check in any couches and chairs too. Flip them on their sides so you can look up into them as well. Most couches and chairs are hollow and the snake could get into them. Just pull, or cut a small hole into the thin fabric on the bottom of the couches and chairs. Since the holes will be underneath the furniture no one would ever see it.
Unpack your things quickly at your new house as well, just in case she is in them she don't move out and go somewhere in there.
I would put flour on the floors too, that is a good idea, and it's not like it would be hard to clean up as long as you have a vacume cleaner.
Also, it's good that you ex is going to stick around there for another month to help, even if your not on good terms, that deserves some thanks.
One more thing, I don't want to come off harsh or mean, but please do not leave your snake with out saying anything to your land lord. Even if pets are not prohibited in your lease they can not do anything major to you since you are no longer renting from them. Also, leaving with out saying any thing would almost definitely be a death sentence for your snake. However, if your snake does destroy any thing (Which would be a long shot) you could be held responsible for the damages, but other than that they can not do anything major. It would be better to get her back then to know she is going to die, no matter how long it would take for her death to come. Since your ex is going to stay for another month, you should try to spread to word out to other renters, and especially your landlord, just in case they may have seen her, or heard something about a snake on the loose. I know you may not want to get your land lord involved, but if some one were to talk about it, most likely, your land lord is going to be the first to hear it. Your fish game and wildlife department can not seize all of your animals just because one escaped, that I do know for a fact as I had that issue once here in New Jersey. They may inspect your cages/racks/tubs/etc. to ensure they are up to par as far as being escape proof so this incident does not happen again, and to ensure they are healthy if they even got involved (Which would also be a long shot, one of your neighbors or landlord would have to call them). The only time the will seize your animals is if you have multiple incidents with escaping animals, or if it is a big cat (Lion, Tiger, Lynx, etc.). With big cats you only get one chance, if they escape or harm someone, it will be seized and euthanized.
Sorry it's so long but please consider what I said, I wouldn't lie, or try to get you in trouble, I just would like to see you get you snake back. Please give an update either way though. You still have my best wishes, and as always, good luck.
