Re: BP biting Face
It's true your head is a big heat emmitting block. A snake that is in distress or hungry could very well focus on your head when striking. It's not a total myth in that regards.
Why in the world would someone stick and wag their tongue out at their snake?
Also, ever been bit by a BP? Hardly a mark if you ask me. I've been bit a couple of times, and each time it felt like a pinch, the only reason I bleed a little is because their teeth are sharp and small, so they can make a nice little spot.
In my opinion, a paper cut or hangnail all hurt and bleed worse than a BP bite.
Now, go get bit by a BP, then an adult rat, tell me which one seems more dangerous. ;)
(im kidding, dont try to get bitten)

Totally agree. Especially a female rat that thinks shes protecting her babies (well she is kind of because they're snake food lol) I've never tried to get bitten but I have one breeder that will bite and HARD every time I reach in even if it's just to change the food. Compared to a rat bite a BP bite is nothing.

Re: BP biting Face
I'd love to respond properly to this thread but you see I can't really see the keyboard well with the 40 odd snakes hanging off my face.
What a crazy myth! If you are silly enough to stick your face into the path of a striking snake, well you should get bit. If you wiggle your tongue or fingers or whatever at a hungry snake, you should get bit.
Best advice - try to be slightly smarter than your snake. :D

no, i ment because when they try to strike at your tounge while it is in your mouth, because it looks the hottest to them, your face gets in the way.
And yea ive been bitten by a bp. My bp has a good grip and alot of teeth. i still have little scabs from it. About 27 scabs. lol, he got the whole top of my ring finger. It didnt hurt that bad, just like getting 27 shots from the doctor in one location, lol. And there was alot of blood, it gets everywhere lol

Re: BP biting Face
A rat can rip you open in a split second. Razor sharp teeth that slice and dice.
Getting bit by a ball python is more like a kitty scratch.
