Even related to cats and dogs, there is not yet one reliable study proving the safety of using it for them. You would be taking even more of a chance with snakes.

Just wanted to post a quick correction here. Ball Pythons are NOT colubrids, While all snakes are in the Order Squamata, there are several different families of snakes, the colubridae and the pythonidae being two of them. All pythons (including ball pythons) are in the family Pythonidae, NOT in the family Colubridae.

Also, I believe that all pythons have TWO functioning lungs rather then the one functioning lung that is common in colubrids.

I believe you are correct about the lungs. My understanding is that balls in fact have two that are functional but one is much smaller than the other.

Oh my god, my bad! Apologies, I don't know how I managed to heck that colubrid thing up, thank you for correcting me!! Wish I could edit my original post...

Nonetheless I have always been told that BPs only have one functioning lung, and the second one is very much reduced/very small, but that is hear-say and I do not guarantee it now that I have been informed that BPs sure as heckie aint colubrids!
Colubrids, on the other hand, very well do have the one-lung-heavily-reduced thing going on.

One lung or one and a half or two ― Either way I still wouldn't ever use pine oil anything around them, to get back to the topic...

Definitely agree with that, while I'm certain that there have never been any studies using essential cedar oils in a diffuser around snakes, I've seen first hand what Cedar wood as a substrate for snakes can do and it's not a pretty sight.

My question is, why is there discussion on the number of functioning lungs? If I breathe in poison in both my lungs or my left lung instead of my right lung or vise verse I'm pretty sure the results are all the same......

Quick Google search didn't yield much on oils, but there is multiple legit sources on the very negative effects of Cedar substrate on ball pythons. Personally I see no reason to risk the unknown given what we do know.

Whilst answering the initial question someone mentioned that snakes only have one lung, which was promptly followed by someone else doubting that claim ― followed by this small off-topic discourse on snek lungs ;)
TLDR, the initial question was asked and we got sidetracked
