It's species dependent, but more often than not true! In a lot of snakes (most colubrids for example, which make up roughly 2/3 of all snakes and include Ball Pythons) the left lung technically exists, but evolution reduced it to a non-functioning stump of an organ in order to save space. In other species, like most boas, the left lung is still functioning but also reduced in size. So yea, a lot of snakes only have one functioning lung, and some other have the left lung reduced to 85% and less. It's also the reason why a snake's respiratory system is so vulnerable, most only have one or one and a half lung, so they gotta treasure it! ; ) [Source]
