I think the days of selling snakes for 5 figures is long gone. Sure there are some still willing to pay that, but I don't think very many breeders are going to be coughing up that money knowing that things are kind of slowing down.

If it is new, amazing, and no one else has it - someone will buy it for five figures.
Gem stones commonly sell for five figures - and they don't reproduce.
Even dresses and purses sell for five figures (which I think is STUPID).

The market is there, you just have to find it.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling............... oh wait the sky has been falling for as long as I remember since deciding to get started in the breeding game close to a decade ago, yet the market is still here and many people are still here too.

Sure their are different level of success there are the people that want to make this for a living, those that want to make some extra cash and those that just want to break even to be able to afford the cool morphs they want.

The difference between the ones that will succeed and meet their goals and others, is the ability to evolve with the market and make smart decisions.

Anyone thinking they will get rich overnight will not make it and usually those are the people that sell their entire collection after 3 to 4 years, because no matter what this is work and if you want to succeed to the professional level or making a nice profit level you will have to treat it like a business.

Every year some people will loudly declare the BP market is "dead" and a few people will loudly declare that "there isn't anything new in BPs to be found".

Every year those folks are wrong. We are past the big BP heyday, when everything was hot and loads of hobbyists thought they were going to be a millionaire by next breeding season... well maybe the next one... the one after that....

BP businesses are not terribly different from any other business. It takes a lot of work, a lot of time and/or a lot of money to be on the cutting edge and making a good living. It also takes a good reputation (or a lot of fans with poor taste)to stay in business because in the BP hobby, word does get around when someone starts screwing folks over.

BPs are fast becoming the same as the corn hobby. But look at the corn hobby! It's still going strong and they're still finding cool stuff and people are still buying and breeding. BPs won't go away just because the prices aren't crazy high.

I am female and don't get this either. If I'm dropping five figures on something it better go bang or reproduce.
