Yep. My baby BP was a picky eater from the breeder. She warned me. I felt really confident. My corn snake is always out and 'searching' when she's hungry. So I waited until my BP did the same. It was 8 days after getting my baby that he started getting out and searching. Warmed the rat up NICE and warm in hot water. Did the zombie dance. He hesitated at first, so I just did little tiny movements. Just enough to make him twitch. Suddenly, he hit it and full coiled. He was on live mice prior, but took a F/T rat no problem with this method.

The water really helped my snakes pick up that there was food there. Kind of like how a wet dog smells more strong. The same probably goes for prey too. Wet mousey/rat, better strikes at my place :gj:

if i wait for my bp to wander for food, i would be waiting months >.< He doesn't wander at all. He used to only eat one mouse every week...the last two feedings though, we've got him on 2 large mice, which is about the size of a smalll rat. It really shows on his weight though...he's 3 and is only about 750g =/

I would try ft again if he will not eat it try again in a few weeks. And don't give in when he gets really hungry he will eat anything.

What do you guys mean "zombie dance?" Ive been having problems getting my girl to eat F/T. I know shes hungry too cause when ever i go in the room and turn the light on she peaks out of her hide as if to say "wheres my rat at?"

That seems so strange to me. All of my animals 'inform' me of when they are hungry. My BP (100g) searches. My corn snake will cruise and cruise and cruise. Even my geckos will come and 'sit' at their spot, waiting for food. My crestie will even put his feet in his empty dish and look at me.

What kind of enclosure do you have your snake in? Maybe that's a difference. I don't use tubs. I use PVC enclosures for all of my critters.

It's unfortunate you're having problems with him. Have you tried tweaking his surroundings? I added crumpled paper to my baby BPs enclosure, and took him out every other day to get him over being so 'shy'. Since then, he doesn't flinch at us anymore and has calmed right down. Tracks me when he's hungry. He cruises all through his paper 'mountains' and seems happier to have LOTS of hiding spots. He'll even track my when I walk in and he's hungry now.

Wish I could tell you what the 'magic' is. Guess I'm just lucky. All of my goobers are great at telling me they want their food.

Except my corn snake. But that's because she does the 'interested' tracking about 3 days after her meal. Little liar! Haha.

I wonder if it's because he knows he doesn't have to wander? He gets fed every week, but even when he fasts, he doesn't start to wander when he's ready to eat again =/ I just try until he eats again >.< I don't use tubs, he's in a 20gal tank, very closely monitored for heat and humidity. strange fellow, that's for sure. I might try switching things up...he doesn't flinch or ball up when I'm holding him or anything...he just doesn't search for food xD Maybe he's just THAT chill xD

My female is picky too, it just depends on the snake. Some will eat anything, some won't: not all retics are like that (though most are, that's true). My girl will strike and wrap, but they she'll let it go and I have to do it all over again. Usually by the third or fourth time of that she'll decide to eat it but I've left feeders (f/t) in with her overnight and she wouldn't touch them. I found that feeding slightly undersized feeders makes her finish eating faster (ie no dinking around with heating, offering, needing to re-offer after she drops it, etc) than feeders that are more the size of her width. She had a better response to mice when I first got her too.

when my boy does the strike, wrap, release, I just leave it...in about an hour or so, he usually goes back to it to eat it. (I have videos of this ordeal xD). even after you leave it in there, she doesn't eat? strange. I'm so glad Pajamas isn't picky...oliver is bad enough >.<

Nope, she's a turd. I'm thinking she'll grow out of it though: time will tell. At least she eats after a bit of a hassle :)
