UTH's used on the side?

    They can be side mounted but are very inefficient. Most of your heating dollars go up with little to no benefit. It works it just takes more power to get the same temps.

To me, they're basically covering their butts if you're too lazy to use the spacers that are provided with the UTH, and too cheap to use a thermostat to regulate the heat output.

    I use the rubber feet (bumpers which are used to reduce impact on cabinets and drawers are fine). Then I mount the heat tape on a piece of old ceramic tile. That makes all safe as long as you use Tstat.
