as far as I know you are correct. the original platinum, when bred to a normal female, produced only lessers and normal-looking offspring that were 'het for platinum.' in order to produce a true platinum, you'd have to pair a typical lesser with a 'het daddy' to use RDR's terminology.
I asked a similar question not long ago about whether the platinum 'hidden gene' is allelic with the entire leucistic complex and it seems to be. I know I saw a clutch of 'mojave daddy' offspring on bush league from a mojave x het platinum pairing.
I think using the term 'hidden gene' is a misnomer but the normal looking offspring from a platinum do indeed produce a different snake when paired with a lesser. I also don't know why there isn't more work being done with the platinums themselves. perhaps mr. davis keeps those stock back more than not or perhaps there just isn't sufficient interest when lessers already look as great as they do.

In theory any genes in the bel complex would be your best bet, but it could have an effect with any gene, don't know til you try

that is the exact question I had not too long ago. I believe serpent nirvana directed me to a link from someone who produced a 'butter daddy' from a non-RDR butter. I cannot recall which thread or who the breeder was though.

Or the 2k price tag on a near normal looking snake which is hard to ID without having other genes with it :)

indeed.
I am interested to know more though. might well be worth it one day. I don't see a great deal of difference between buying a 'het' platinum and investing in a pair of expensive double hets.

Double hets = potentially much longer project lol. 1/16 odds can be hard to hit sometimes.
Also another side note, daddy gene has also been mixed with phantom, rdr calls them phantom 44

that's right, I'd forgotten about the 44s.
